Looking for a new car (lights LiquidSailor signal)
« on: April 06, 2016, 06:14:18 PM »

As the title states. I know nothing, Jon Snow. I'm a babe in the woods.

Requirements:

-All wheel drive
-Reliable, I hate going to the mechanic
-Sedan preferred, coupe is acceptable
-The smaller the better
-Must be automatic, I can't drive stick (:()
-Does not need to be a "luxury" car, more utilitarian

That's about it.

The lease ends in 6 months. I don't need something so expensive. Also, it died on me in the middle of the highway.

Well if you want more reliable, lets stray away from the German brands.

When you say small, AWD, and more utility oriented, I think Subaru.

Cool. How about the Acura? I used to have a Honda Civic and loved its reliability and small size but the modern Civic doesn't come with AWD.

I love the look of the Impreza though.

A friend of mine who works in automotive press loves the impreza and would make it a daily driver, if he wasn't constantly given press cars year round.

Honestly I think that would be your best bet.  Reliable, AWD, more utility oriented, and costs way less than the BMW.

What do you think of the Impreza vs. the WRX?

If it were me, I would go with the WRX because of the added power of the turbo engine.

Subaru has been doing turbo for a long time, so the engine is reliable.  The specific vehicle he had for a long term test vehicle was the WRX limited.

It's gonna cost you another 10 grand up on the Impreza, but it is well worth it.  But since you are leasing it anyway, it shouldn't matter.

The Impreza's standard naturally aspirated 4 banger isn't gonna be much power, especially when it is powering 4 wheels.  Which is why the turbo WRX is the better option.

I was just fucking around and built a WRX for $32,000.  But again, you are leasing so it's not as bad.

Options are limited, you don't need blind spot assistance because you're not a woman.  The rest is all alloy wheels, which is really just cosmetic.  HID headlights I would recommend.  Auto trans obviously.

I thought the WRX was only available in manual. Or is that just the Sti?

WRX now comes with optional automatic transmission in the WRX Limited model. Fortunately that comes with the headlight upgrade, which is the one upgrade I'm keen on because my night vision is relatively poor.

I'd skip the tech package because while I like keyless entry and push-button starting, I don't need navigation, blind spot detection, or driver assist, and if I really like the car I figure I can upgrade the stereo later for cheaper.

The sport package also seems unnecessary.

Yea you don't need the sport package.  And blind spot assist and all that tech stuff is for women who can't drive anyway.

Plus if you were going to upgrade the stereo yourself anyway, you could also get a remote start as well, since many models also add keyless entry.

But yea I know the standard WRX comes with an auto transmission as an option.  The sportier trim models may not.  But those models also cost a few thousand more, and you don't need that anyway.

Are Hondas still the most reliable brand as a whole, or has that changed?

I need a used suv and none of the Honda models appeal to me at all

They never really were, it was just the perception they had.  They have been recalling shit left and right this year, as well as the last decade.

What brand would you look at for a reliable SUV?

Well if you are going used, you have to pwease undahstan that you are probably going to end up putting in money for standard repairs as well.

First, give me a price range as to what you want to spend so I can get an idea.
