I didn't like the 9th Doctor, either.  If that had been my first exposure to Doctor Who, I probably wouldn't have hung around.

There were some standout episodes, such as "The Empty Child" or "Dalek," but most were forgettable.  The Slitheen and Cassandra were stupid.  It didn't help matters that I did not like Rose.

What? The 9'th Doctor's season was awesome.

I loved the two parter with the Slitheen. I know they were cheesy and looked really bad, but for me that was part of the appeal. It felt like a throw back to the classic days with the really really bad rubber suit monsters and bad sets. Plus the episode is filled with great character moments. Everyone thinking Rose was missing, Mickey being shunned by the community because they thought he did it. The Doctor able to find their planet of origin and weakness based on the information everyone gave him. I liked that because it showed just how much of the universe he knows. And then Jackie thinking she had helped catch the bad guy by turning the Doctor in to the police, only for him to receive the royal treatment and a direct trip to Downing Street.

Also, Father's Day is a great episode too. Loved Boom Town with the entire gang working together.

Incredibly cheesy and shot quite poorly. Plus not seeing this incredibly intelligent cunning character. On episode 10

This could be either a good change of pace or we will get a dude constantly mansplaining to The Doctor.

I would bet money that there will be at least one scene somewhere that a character mistakes him for the Doctor and gets emasculated for it.

Going for an old companion is an odd choice.

It just feels like a safety net to take the focus away from a female Doctor.

I guess they wanted to steer away from ToyBoy scenarios or "older dyke" influencing young girl scenarios.
