Oh almost forgot.
I keep seeing this site mentioned on KMC, so posters there do know about it (which likely explains the amount of guests here). I dont think any of them will ever register though.
The lack of security blankets here is pretty intimidating i'd guess, for people who think typing "phuck" is edgy.

I do have  recruiting plan ;)

I mentioned it one thread ago but I'll mention it again

1 - We can certainly up the traffic, the question is will the core long-time members mind an influx of people. If the consensus is that people won't mind, I can get to work on some ideas. I ran one by Dutch and he had some awesome ideas. I'll let Dutch explain it.

2 - It should be discussed here so I can add any necessary bandwidth, security protocols and what-not and/or back-ups.

3 - If we expand, I'm not opposed to adding in facebook ads and doing some actual work

4 - I might have it saved somewhere but someone posted a list of all the other major comic book boards similar to this one. I wouldn't mind getting a hold of that if anyone has it, or could make up a list. I can recruit., that's a good place to start.

5 - Before I get to any of that, I'm opening the floor to discussion about what kind of things we want. I have my ideas but I'll bring it up with anyone and then present it here. No reason we can't go all in. There has to be a consensus here first though.

Ideas? Thoughts

There are patterns. Some posters post on commutes or from work computers. Others post at night after work. Posting gets a little lighter thursday night till Sunday-ish. Considering we've done nothing to advertise, our volume is respectable and we can get a lot more.

I think new posters are the way to go. I mean people gripe about the Fangirl and Abhilegend sorts but differing opinion in that board makes it somewhat interesting and leads to discussion. It also makes Superman/WW threads kind of a pain, but outside of those they chime in a good amount.

Given the nature of the board I think ICT is where people will first come then get into other areas. I think more voices in other areas will be great too.

Also I don't know why we have this rep as a bunch of savages. The people on this board are the only ones I can tolerate. I've tried other message boards but they were clearly filled with people huffing airplane glue. More people who can think would be best, but more people with differing opinions in general is also a thing to strive for. I think recruitment can only benefit things here. As you mentioned, this place has a way of weeding out the most unsavory characters. I'm not too worried about that being a problem.

Just finished training (and this time its a serious camp) and off to online post-grad work (this forum is for people Iodn't mind sharing more of my personal life with - or at least TRUST to share with) but I spent a lot of time last night with some ideas that I'm going to post later on.

I want to improve the board in degree's with a couple of possible end goals style-wise. I'd like feedback.

I've decided to put some real time and some investment into it so I want to do this right I think we could do something that goes takes what we have better than any other board and go a step further

The backbone of my idea is: this is a board of people who have been friends online and at times in regular life for 15-17 years (since wizardworld). A lot of people started on this board as pre-teens and have grown into adults together. Their is a community that goes beyond just comic books. I've seen some people go from pre-adolescent into med school or more.

Communities like this are rare, and are usually built around common ideas or interests and develop into something way bigger. In that spirit, I want to add a lot of features that take advantage that at heart this is a community of people who are either

1 - creative people who write, draw, discuss pop culture, highbrow culture, art and all sorts of eclectic interests in depth. There should be forums or ways of tapping into that and giving people an outlet. As adults, it's a lot of un to talk about comics. I have noticed a lot of people gravitating to and really taking advantage of the music, movies, and tv forum. General forums to look for common ground on dealing with life. The jungle forum (no reason we can't have women on board, and a ton if other things

2 - We have a lot of people who are more debate and current event minded. No reason these forums shouldn't be built up as well.

Summing up - we leave the structure of all the cool stuff we as a community have built up over the years and then addd in our interests as creative individuals, as adults and people who have interests in common and find ways to use the boards to create creative outlets in every possible way. I'm late for class but at 500 members (with that being anywhere from 180-240 real people) with tons of lurkers and members who have less time to spend than before - that's a lot of people. Time to take advantage of that and build something even bigger and better.

So I have a couple of ideas and hopefully a lot of peole here can chip in and we can talk about it. OK, I'm off to class and I'll be back. All thoughts are appreciated.

Well, I'm bringing it up here because I have a few ideas in mind and I need feedback from moderators and members.

1 - First step will have to be a general security overhaul and spruce up the place. There's no reason we shouldn't have a nice graphics and a more professional look. I'm going to have to add in bandwidth and learn the system software a lot better than I know it now. The tech specialist who installed and maintains the upkeep is one of the developers of the software system itself, but still, the more I know the better

2 - Here are some of the ideas I have that I don't know how to implement, but I would like debate/conversation and general ideas.

There a lot of aspiring writers and/or creative types. I'd like areas for writers to put up fan-fiction fiction or anything creative in general and I'd like for it to be a "relatively" criticism free place. People can be themselves, but I don't want people being shy about posting their works if they think they'll get thrown to the wolves

I've thought about board members getting the chance to write op-eds or essays that could somehow be posted on any subject of interest. Which brings me to my next thought

3 - Should we have a front page and divide the site into herochat and areas that are a little more open to pop culture in general???????

It could be a gradual evolution. A front page with a menu that says forums - and maybe a news thread for all things pop culture - something like superherohype or io9. Forum members writing essays that amke it to the front page etc....... A place for artists to post sketches and maybe something gaming related. I want ideas from everyone here.

Since I'm gonig to invest time and money into this - I want a plan that everyone can agree on, or is enthusiastic  - which will later turn into a keyword search, facebook ads, a better facebook page. I get pm's and emails from a lot of people who have spectacular ideas but no r4al place to post their ideas. We can fix that.

I need a list of all the other forums out there like ours. We can take the best of theirs and add with ours.

In short - lets get the discussion going. There's enough raw talent here to help people with their real lives - and get a lot done. So pleae look over what I've just posted and give a few suggestions. I'll try to get in touch with people by email as well for suggestions

I loved a lot of the writing done here by other members. It inspired me to want to do some myself (which I've occasionally posted). The members creation place use to be very active with that. HJ, AP and Ares are all still around and have all been active at one point or another. Don't know how many other people here are into writing fanfics though. I personally see the appeal but how do you use that to bring people here? Make this a place for aspiring writers to put work out?

I'm afraid we wouldn't be going anywhere as a board until we ban RIV, DLB and safado.

1 - Ares, AP and HJ are all creative writers. Mightily Oats is a writer. I'll get flak, but I am as well. I suspect there are a lot more that are just shy to post their work

Besides them the movie,tv,and music forums cover a lot of territory but they are hugely active. A lot of board members are smart, insightful and have great perspectives on pop culture and culture in general. No reason that can't be transformed into movie, tv and book reviews, and who knows what else.

So back to your original question. How does this get more members?

Here's what I'm going to do

1 - make the boards better PERIOD: Once a new member gets here, they have to gravitate towards forums they like. I just looked at KMC forums. They have a good layout, but they're conservative. That won't be a problem here. The ethic stays the same, we just offer more venues for people to do what they like

2 - Once the basic additions are installed then a front pahe and a system of how it's going to work is put in. A front page can do worlds of awesomeness. It's easy. Pick 1-12 sites with news on whatever subject and put an rss feed and post daily. Top navigation makes everything above official. Imagine Oats writing up a nice review of Michael Crichton and Jurassic World. Dutch writing a review of anything and getting a column for whenever he feels like posting and getting the creative juices flowing. It wouldn't have to be longer than a few forum posts, just copy and paste it with a cool caricature. On the forums everybody discuses, argues whatever.....just a lot more activity.

3 - So 1 is pretty specific. 2 is a broad stroke but I'm brainstorming.  Here's what I'm gettin at in the long run

A - make the board BETTER - in terms of structure and letting people use their talent. Before anything else is done,  the forum has to be more professional looking and with better options for usage.

B - Facebook ads, twitter, facebook page, a few ppc ads, keyword research and work to get organic traffic. Back links to other sites and blogs. Pretty soon the site will shot up in google for a lot of pop culture results. The battleboard alone will bring along the type of person who debates who wins in a super hero fight and get people onto all the other boards. Respect threads will do the same.

So long story short. Make the board better. Create structure and go after it like any internet business except the goal is to get new users. Aim for say, a very reasonable 500 new mmebers in the next 6 months as I put up ads and get people over. Sooner or later, the board is popping

I want to run it professionally. I had about 10 good ideas while wriitng this. I'll start writing some specific stuff toight and getting in touch with people but my big question for everyone is - what forums do we want and how do we implement them?

Sorry for all the typos, Im thinking out loud here
