Can anyone suggest some comics to try?
« on: May 23, 2015, 07:49:42 PM »
Does anyone have any suggestions for any complete comic runs or original graphic novels worth checking out? For work reasons it’s possible I might end up vanishing from civilization for a year or so and I would have a limited opportunity to pick up reading materials before departing if I have to. I have a few hundred books on my reading list but I would probably grab a few graphic novels as well if I do end up going.

1980s:
Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns
Frank Miller's Daredevil run
Claremont X-Men
Simonson Thor
Moore Watchmen
Wolfman/Perez Titans
Ostrander Suicide Squad
Giffen JLI

1990s:
Waid Flash
Waid Captain America
Waid Legion of Super Heroes
Morrison JLA
PAD Hulk
Starlin/Marz Silver Surfer/Thanos stuff
Priest Black Panther
Gaiman Sandman
Ennis Preacher
Ellis Stormwatch

2000s:
Morrison All-Star Superman
Morrison Batman & Robin
Waid Daredevil
Ellis/Millar Authority
DNA Legion of Super Heroes
DNA Guardians of the Galaxy

I guess in general just look for Waid, Morrison, Miller, Millar, Ellis, Ennis, PAD, DNA.

Sadly I have already been exposed to Shadowland which ended my streak of following Daredevil from Miller on (the only book I followed that long across that many authors. Glad to hear the Waid stuff is good. I will definitely be checking that out

That is one I definitely have to finish I wast as far as issue 42 a few years back and loving it until a combination of the DC Reboot and the Post civil war marvel stuff kind of burned me out on the Big 2 for a while. Only just got back into reading comics again recently but that was a great run. His Sleeper stuff was awesome too.

Supreme Power and Superior

Did Supreme Power ever get an ending after?

I just read the first volume, issues 1-18. Once they started mixing it with the Ultimate universe it became pointless.

That was when I dropped it as well.

Too bad I was really interested in seeing Hyperion work on world domination while pertending to be a government puppet.

Most of the classic superhero runs have gotten mentioned, so I'll list other stuff.

Recent stuff:

Remender's Uncanny X-Force, Gillen's Journey Into Mystery, Simone's Secret Six.

Irredeemable & Uncoruptible got together as a nice hefty-sized double read.

Basically any of Alan Moore's ABC stuff from the early 2Ks.

There's a near-infinite amount of quality Hellboy & BRPD stuff if you want something that hues towards horror.

Y The Last Man if you haven't read that...dunno how obvious you want us to go, but that should be up there. Transmetropolitan for a future-shock Hunter S. Thompson waging war with the presidents of the US of the 31st Century...that with Planetary are Warren Ellis' peak books. Northlanders for Viking badassery.

Read Y, Transmetropolitan  and Planetary, Simone's Secret Six. and part of Irredeemable.

Added Remender's Uncanny X-Force, Gillen's Journey Into Mystery,Alan Moore's ABC stuff and Northlanders to my reading list.

Journey into mystery is the kid Loki arc that is followed by Loki: Agent of Asgard right?
I have read most Hellboy stuff I think. Up as far as "Hellboy the troll witch and others" I will check out BRPD.
