Manafort sentence
« on: March 08, 2019, 11:53:27 AM »
https://thehill.com/opinion/criminal-justice/433175-four-years-for-paul-manafort-is-the-right-sentence

What you think of this
It was recomended by the prosecuters for 19 years and got about 4 years
because the judge felt he lived a blamless life till then
Some reporter saying that he may get pardon..since Trump can pant it as "The crime wasn't that  bad he got 4 years"

Of course there another sentence coming from another judge

The Judge clearly gave a finger to Mueller's team in the sense that, the Judge clearly did not see this case weigh as heavy as the prosecutors claimed it to be.

It does show a major major problem with the criminal justice system when many non-violent drug offenders and many perpetrators of lesser crimes facing much longer sentences. My response isn't to make people like Manafort's sentence longer, but to make other's much much shorter (and pardon many, frankly).

It was better than nothing, but not what it should have been.

It's definitely bullshit considering what his crimes were.  I think giving him less time for conspiracy against the US. Which, I would consider treason is more dire than getting a bag of weed even certain armed crimes don't reach the level of offense as his conspiracy considering it would have arrested impact.  Hell, I'll see if I can locate some of the crimes I've seen people get more time for that I saw in the past couple of days.

Hell the woman who voted illegally by accident got way more time.
The kid who recently killed himself after being sent to Riker's Island for 3 year at 16 for stealing a backpack which he didn't even do (and when his parent came up with money for bail the judge denied it).

Kalief Browder & he wasn't even tried or sentenced if I recall that correctly.

People shouldn't be surprised.  This was never going to end with any major prison sentences.  At least not for the people who really deserve it.

So much for that.

7 extra years and new state charges are being formed. This dude could very easily die in jail now.

Not a fan of a death sentence for money crimes but I'm more on the Netherland's view point of how incarceration should work.

So it honestly short for that the crimes were

Also if he dies in Jail it because it got away it for so long that they only caught him when he was old as fuck. And he probally get pardon for it

They've been saying this is to possibly block a possible pardon from Trump.  Since, it would be a state case and charge.

If he DOESN'T get pardoned he is dead in jail. If he is pardoned there is no guarantee he is getting out alive.

I know what you are saying rock about age and getting caught, but death is death and I think these things should be considered (as judges typically do as the judge showed in the original sentencing).

I don’t think the state charges were brought just to avoid a Trump pardon, but if they were, it would be completely corrupt.
