A minor anecdote:

A friend of mine was a national level wrestler in high school here in Canada.

He'd destroy all the other guys our age in a wrestling match, except for me because I was so much bigger and stronger. I literally just manhandled him when he tried anything.

Probably a similar situation for Angle and Big Show. It's one thing to have to outskill someone who's stronger than you, but bigger AND stronger makes it doubly as hard.

That's why there's weight classes and not strength classes.

I loved the story in Bret Hart's book where some of the boys were messing around in a hotel and he and Curt Hennig were trying to flip the other guys into a pin from a prone position. Even Jim Neidhart, one of the strongest guys in wrestling history, couldn't stop them ... the one guy who they couldn't budge, no matter how hard they tried, was Rick Rude. Bret said Rude's strength was just crazy.

I've never heard the story, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me

Yep. Lesnar's not exactly shy about bragging about himself so it really speaks to his admiration for Kane. I dunno who else was there, I have a hard time seeing Lesnar beat Show or Mark Henry in an armwrestle, although maybe if he was aggressive enough...

Dave Meltzer used to say that other than Henry, the strongest guy backstage in the Attitude Era was Ron Simmons, until Kane came along and took over. Kane's benchpress figures aren't that mindblowing compared with some others but maybe he's just one of those guys with incredible natural strength who are impossible to push around ... that or his bench figure's legit and the figures of a lot of other guys are inflated, which is probably the case. I think I've heard Kane can bench around 525 and do 400lbs for a stupid number of reps.

I was reading a really cool thread on a bodybuilding board not long ago ... as usual, the precious bodybuilders were appalled at the very idea that a fake wrestler would dare suggest they could lift anywhere near as much as them. There was one guy on the thread, though, who used to work at Golds as a personal trainer and saw a ton of wrestlers come in, and he said a lot of them were really impressive. The name that really surprised me was Larry Zbyszko, who could apparently do set after set of ten reps with 410lbs on the benchpress. Granted, Larry Z had a barrel chest and was mentored by Bruno Summartino but I'd still never have pegged him as a serious lifter.

Bret Hart mentioned in his book that he once benched 400lbs for 3 reps or something, and a load of people scoffed at that. This trainer actually saw him do it at Golds in the late 80s, when Bret was juiced up and weighed about 240lbs legit.

He wrestled at I think 165, so he was 100 pounds lighter than me, way less than between. Angle and Big Show, and 8-9 inches shorter
