Death and the MCU
« on: October 26, 2018, 01:17:12 AM »
A lot of articles and fan comments written about the upcoming Avengers movie seem certain that some major characters are going to die.  I'm curious what the board's thoughts are about the following

1.  Is there any major character you feel absolutely needs to die?

2.  Is there anyone whose death would ruin the movie for you?

3.  In general, when actors contracts are up and/or the character's solo movies and arc are finished, should the character be killed off?

Vision, Heimdall, and Loki were confirmed dead after Infinity War.  Of course, with a possible Loki streaming show coming up, who knows how dead he truly is.  As for who dies in 4, I'm not sure Cap or Tony will die simply because everyone anticipates it.  I'm guessing they retire, go to some other realm, or otherwise leave the picture but don't die.  But if they or anyone else die, it wouldn't ruin things for me depending on how they go out.  And when it comes to killing off characters because their actors ended their contracts, it seems too predictable.  It should be changed up a bit.

If the MCU pulls off that smoothly, a recasting of a major role like that, that really will be their swan song.

You like what they did with Hulk and War Machine?

I'm assuming after IW Part 2?

'Cos it was pretty anti-climatic if that was the "real" death that we saw...

There was a War Machine movie?
And re-animating a CGI character is hardly the same.

Cap's dead, for sure.

And they'll recast before they reboot. They've already dine so more than once.

War Machine is a main character.  And you do realize they switch actors for Bruce Banner, right?

But, those actors weren't part of the MCU for the hulk.  War machine I kind of was pissed about and wasn't sure about replacing Terrance aboard.  But, it was a good move going with Don.  And shows that getting the right person means it won't fucking matter if they make the right move for the part.

People don't show up for Bruce Banner.
And recasting a side character from Phase 1, who had been in a single film and then growing said character through many more films isn't in the same ballpark as recasting Cap, Iron Man Thor or Starlord.

The Hulk movie was in the MCU.

You claim they never replaced major characters’ actors.  They have.

Doubt he's dead since he and Scarlet Witch are getting TV shows.
