Let's say Quark somehow became President of America but couldn't use any of his future tech or knowledge of science. Would he be a better or worse President?

Well, the Ferangi are anti-war (because it's not profitable), so there's one point for Quark.

That’s Star Trek utopianism. War is EXTREMELY profitable and if the Trek writers were honest, they’d have made the Ferengi the biggest war profiteers in fiction. But it’s Trek, so they’re pacifists.

Well there are Ferengi war profiteers, like cousin Gaila with his private moon. I think when they say war isn't profitable, they mean for the Ferengi as a whole. Individual Ferengi might be war profiteers, but those individual Ferengi would have a hell of a time convincing the bulk of Ferengi society that it was their patriotic duty to buy a huge military. It seems likely that Ferengi society demands a hundred different fact-checked cross-checked analasies before approving the minimum budget needed to defend Ferengi space, and that every Ferengi citizen goes over the budget with a fine-toothed comb before spending one strip of latinum on it. This shit where were we get 700-plus billion dollar budgets without even the military asking for it and without it even being seriously debated would not fucking fly on Ferenginar, no fucking way.

In our world, a weapons manufacturer can play on people's patriotism and naivete. On Ferenginar, that shit would get you laughed at at best, thrown off the top of the Tower of Commerce to splatter on the ground of the Sacred Marketplace at worst.

So the Ferengi don’t wage war or raise armies themselves, but sell weapons and supplies to other planets/races at war? That makes more sense, that’s where the money is.

Quark is A LOT smarter. He's also shown he has some modicum of loyalty/honor, which is more than I can say for Trump. So he'd probably be better, yes.

Yea, there's lots of profit in selling weapons.  But Quark is a people person.  Selling weapons doesn't allow for that.  People just want their merchandise, and then want to leave.  That's why Quark opened the bar.  He likes to interact with his customers.

As DS9 went on, Ferengi culture changed a lot.  They even started to allow their women to wear clothes!

Quark. He may be greedy, but he does have standards on how far he's willing to go and does actually care for his friends and family.
