MCU: Asgard vs the forces of Thanos
« on: May 16, 2018, 02:03:34 PM »
For this fight Odin is still alive and has fully unlocked Thor's power and outfitted him with Stormbreaker (He had it created before the battle started)

Odin has broken out the full contents of his war room and commissioned the dwarves to provide his army with as many weapons of war as possible. The destroyer, rainbow bridge and other magical items are still fully functional.

Thanos has gathered all of his forces and his black order but has no infinity gems.

Loki will not aid either side

Due to the fact that MCU Odin is very hard to peg down power wise both he and Thanos will sit out the fight allowing their armies to fight it out.

Thor was able to one-shot Thanos with the IG. He pretty much soloed his army.

Asgard should stomp here.

Thought it was interesting that in many ways a full power Asgard would have served as a check against Thanos.

If Odin was in his right mind and Heimdall was on active guard duty they would have instantly picked up that Thanos was attacking a space station under  Asgardian protection.

Odin clearly knew about the threat the Infinity Gauntlet represented as we saw by the fake one he had designed and stored in his weapons fault and would likely have brought the kingdom into all out war mode.

Thanos got all the stones really fast once he started, making you wonder why he waited so long and was working in the shadows through other people.  Odin's death and Asgard's fall happen right before Thanos assaults Xandar and begins gathering the stones.

Perhaps they were keeping him in check, and once they were gone he was able to really set his plans in motion.

Yeah, there's a fan theory that Thanos was waiting for Odin (and possibly ego) to be gone before making any overt moves. Not sure if it was intentional but it does make sense. In Ragnarock, Thor even says how the 9 realms are in turmoil due to Odin's absence. So the All Father was clearly keeping some things in check.

That fan theory also involved waiting until the Ancient One died.  An Odin and Stormbreaker team up would be devastating.

It follows roughly how it went down with Ultimate Thanos. At one point he couldn't act because Asgard was too powerful. Eventually, Asgard's power had waned enough that he was able to launch his attack. Pretty sure he turned Thor into a tree.

I knew I was forgetting someone. Thought it might be Ego but that didn't sound right.

But yeah, the fan theory is pretty sound, imo.
