The old reason for the clash could still work with a little modification, depending on how the movie ends. For example, cut to a year after the Venom movie. Brock has assumed a false identity and is working peacefully in the same building as Parker. Parker discovers who he is and, only knowing him from the propaganda of the Venom movie villain, thinks Brock is a villain. Parker turns him in, completely destroying Brock's new life. Brock, already struggling with the symbiotes aggressive urges, becomes furious and vengeful.

Of course, all this depends heavily on how the Venom movie ends, but it is reasonably close to the original reason for Brock's hatred.

I don't like the modern idea that Peter and Brock are co-workers.  The original concept was that Peter was unrelated to Brock but had ruined his life in an indirect way.

Yeah, in the comics, Brock worked for the Daily Globe, not the Bugle. He never met Peter or Spider-Man until after he became Venom. That said, while I dislike the fact that nearly all of Spidey's movie villains had a pre-existing connection to Peter (all of the Raimi Spidey villains did), Brock's excuse for having a grudge against Spidey was rather weak in the comics, so that's one area where I wouldn't mind deviating from the source material a little.

I'd probably scrap the Sin-Eater angle altogether, and replace it with some random incident involving Spidey, Brock and Ann Weying (Brock's ex-wife in the comics, who's apparently his girlfriend in the upcoming movie), where Ann gets killed and Brock blames Spidey for it. Perhaps Brock could also have a son or daughter who's killed in the same incident, and that'd be a stronger justification for him wanting Spider-Man dead, without the need to contrive a prior connection to Peter.

This could have been great, and looks like it will be meh at best.

And as much as I love Tom Hardy, I will never understand his attempts at an "American" accent lol. The dude is all over the place

Still gonna be a "No" for me.

Yeah, it looks super average. And this version of Eddie looks like a helpless victim. Meh.

Hardy's portrayal of Brock is reasonably faithful to how the comic version came across prior to joining with the symbiote. He kind of was a victim of the symbiote in a way, and he did get attacked by a group of thugs like that in his comic origin.

Not disagreeing about this looking like, at best, a lacklustre film, but I get the impression Hardy's done some research on the character and has tried to be as authentic to the comics as possible, within the bounds of the script.

Okay I've drawn a serious blank....I have no recollection of Banks being in a Spiderman flick..?

She was Betty Brant, secretary for J. Jonah Jameson

She was in all the Spider-Man Rami movies

She played Betty Brant in the original trilogy. She only had a handful of scenes between the three movies.
