Why is everyone praising Paul Ryan?
« on: April 12, 2018, 09:12:05 AM »
Seriously, what's up with that. Do people forget that when Romney was running for president, all Ryan did was make up stupid lies? Or how about how his two decade quest to lower the deficit resulted in him helping with a tax plan that will raise it by a trillion in about another year and a half? And that's not talking about how he went after medicare or anything that helped poor people.

Seriously, why am I hearing everyone talk like he's a saint. He's not.

I mean, he sees the writing on the wall, is going to go away until the Dems take powers, and then make up lies and try to get back into power, probably run for president and go back to being the same lying weasel he's always been.

I haven't seen anyone praise him.  Quite the opposite.

Unless it's Fox or the WSJ or something.

Yeah, obviously Fox News, Brietbart, etc will praise him.  That should be expected.

USA Today ran an opinion piece by some "free market" (term used loosely) think tank guy

You don’t get votes by going on C-SPAN with a sober analysis of health care policy, which was Ryan’s strength. You get it by debasing yourself on YouTube.

In 2018, a culture with little use for decency is ending the careers of numerous politicians who have too much dignity to cut a mock rap video, call their opponents names, or act like every proposal by the opposing party represents the end of the republic.

Sober, dignified figures such as Paul Ryan are at a double disadvantage in this new era. Nice guys, they don’t play the power politics game all that well. To paraphrase Sean Connery in The Untouchables, they bring pie charts to a knife fight.

I guess supporting policies that purposely and consistently make people's lives worse is okay providing you are nice and dignified about it.

Kyle Kulinski tells it straight regarding Ryan. It's a good nine minute listen if you can.

He actually makes a lot of well-supported points. Paul Ryan being the kind of person to bring facts into a conversation isn't supported, unfortunately.

Sure, I'd give him that. The following train of thought is especially apparent on CNN, MSNBC, and various other televised news sources

Quote
Policy — the details of what government laws and regulations actually do — is little covered even in the nation’s major print publications because that’s not where the eyeballs are.

You just don't see much actual reporting and fact finding anymore. It's like the so-called "mainstream" media has en masse become the Weekly World News for corporate interests. It's endless coverage of "Russia, Russia, Russia" and Stormy Daniels life history. Spiced with occasional "Our weapons are beautiful" and "How many jobs will be lost if we stop waging war" type comments.

Meanwhile the intricacies of vital problems like aging infrastructure, climate change, net neutrality, lagging wages, educational debt, and poor national health are all but ignored now. Receiving only minute fractions of the time the gossip rag topics do.

Well, that's a different topic, but I largely agree with everything you just said.
