Once capcom has released this MVC sequel, its hype just died quickly. People are not talking about this like the classic game MVC2. This suffered from executive meddling such as a lack of X-Men characters and only having a roster only based on MCU characters for the Marvel side. Did the 30 character roster also hurt this game?.
Pretty sure what killed it was the game being : "Avengers vs. a very small selection of Capcom."
This is easily one of the vs. Series worst character roster, and that's even taking into account their
Copy/Paste lazy games like Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter and even Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
The majority of the characters on the Marvel side have all appeared (or will) appear in a major
motion picture. The *ONLY* character yet to do so is Nova, although Ghost Rider only appeared in
Agents of SHIELD, but it still counts in terms of the MCU. That means 0 X-Men characters AND 0
non-MCU characters (Taskmaster, Iron Fist, Dr. Doom, Super Skrull, She-Hulk, etc). This is extremely
disappointing considering that Marvel has a huge selection of characters to choose from. The only
thing they did was add Captain Marvel & Black Panther (solid choices), but then waste the slots by
adding a couple of "who cares" characters with no real gimmick/unique potential in a fighting game
setting (Black Widow, Winter Soldier, Gamora).
On Capcom's side, they're just as lame and uninspiring too. Nearly identical to the same roster
as the previous game. No big new additions, just keeping the mostly same uninspired cast from
the last game.
The voice acting is utterly horrendous. Compared to MvsC3, nearly all these English voices just
do NOT suit the characters they're voicing. Fred Tatasiore is fantastic as Hulk, but pure shit as
Ghost Rider, for example.
Storymode is fan-fiction nonsense that makes the story for the X-Men & Avengers Alliance rpgs
look like The Last of Us in terms of narrative.
The art-direction they went is a trainwreck. Just look up the old designs for Dante and Chun-Li
and you'll see why people were apprehensive. I don't know what convinced them to go the
hyper realistic look. The games have always been anime-inspired and cartoony. Why the fuck
would you change it now?
The Gem system is very much broken and unusable (Reality Gem or bust). The original Gem
System in Marvel Super Heroes was better.
2 vs. 2 is very boring compared to the 3 vs. 3 system.
Yeah, it had a lot of bad going into it.
