The whole point of Signs was that they were actually demons, not aliens.  And holy water was killing them, not regular water.

I think Xerxes linked me the article where it was discussed. Shamalamalan is a total dickhead, though.
Except there's even holes in that

Like Shamallamadingdong showing up in the movie and randomly saying "apparently, they don't like water"

Signs is a broken movie, even with the demon explanation

Don't over analyze it.
Does that mean it's stupid?

No, the movie itself is really good, but my wife and I started doing that afterwards where you extrapolate everything out and realize it's fairly flimsy (there is no way at all the monsters in this are humanity-level threat). But ignore that because, in a vacuum, it's a TERRIFIC atmosphere movie.

Just watched it and had the same feeling immediately after. I usually effortlessly suspend disbelief but this one was odd for me

Producer: a quiet place was a huge hit. We need to do something like that
Director: I agree. we can’t just copy them though
Producer: yeah we might get sued. What’s the opposite of hearing?
Director: seeing?
Producer: perfect. We have our movie

Enjoyed it too.

But yeah discovering a high pitch frequency was the answer was a bit disappointing for a finale.

The nail in the stair...as obvious as the set up...had me cringing in anticipation waiting for that moment someone would step on it.

Nice touch they actually used a deaf actress to play the daughter.

I heard a sequel is in the works.

Within 5 minutes someone was like “try a different frequency!” And they allegedly took out the human race? I don’t buy it!

Would’ve been better if it was simply a survivalist tale from one family’s POV.

Yeah that's how I felt about it. I just didn't seem as a planetary level threat, what with our weapons and such. I mean we'd figure out pretty quickly that that were hearing based, and that's a pretty exploitable weakness.

That said I finally watched this last Saturday and I liked it. I'm not going to rush out to buy it, but I liked it.

I enjoyed it, certainly enough to not care about the handwaving aspects like how civilization collapsed. I think it helped that it wasn't shown. If they showed the collapse, even through a montage, it would seem more BS. But they way they did it, it's possible that there were other factors that caused the breakdown of society. Also, maybe some pockets of civilization were up and running and this family was just isolated.

I also think modern society is a lot more fragile than most so that helps with my suspension of disbelief.

I never really watched The Office so much so seeing Jim do a good job in this role was a pleasant surprise. The kids were REALLY good, and the child actors are usually the weakest link in movies. I had a laugh thinking about how much outrage there would be if they picked a non-deaf actress for the role of the daughter.

Overall, they did a great job keeping up the level of suspense. I thought this was a good movie that didn't seem gimmicky, even if there was a gimmick at the core of the movie. It's too bad they're going to make a sequel, which will almost certainly be an inferior version.

For some reason I honestly got a demonic, supernatural vibe when I 1st saw the trailer & that had me hyped.

It was a bit disappointing when it turned out to be an alien invasion.
