The Silencer - think John Wick with superpowers

This is a new series from DC. Written by Dan Abnett, drawn by John Rominta, Jr.... though they're both credited as "storytellers". Whatev.

The Silencer is a superpowered assassin who used to work for Talia al Ghul. She quit to start a new life, but gets dragged back into the criminal life.

The tone of the book is very John Wick-ish, with criminal codes, neutral ground areas, third-party clean-up crews and weapons suppliers... Just with superpowers. Think John Wick meets Millar's Wanted.

It's a decent read so far.

Is it?
Looked like a bad 90s book that somehow travelled through time.

I can understand getting that impression, but I think the writing carries the concept. Even the low-level bad guy characters that were killed off in one fight seemed creative and interesting. To me, I feel that's a good sign there are other cool things ahead.

Yeah, but unlike John Wick, the second issue of The Silencer was as good as the first.

I'll give a look, thanks.

Still waiting on Challengers. Terrifics was interesting enough to check out another issue.

Did you manage to identify the line that represented the Silencer from JRJ's stencils?

Good comic so far, I like JRjr's art but that might be a turn off for some.

Is anyone reading the other new DC titles like Damage, Sideways, the Terrifics? etc.

Damage just seems too Hulky though it will be interesting to see how he fares against Wonder Woman in issue #3 since he just demolished some team (Suicide Squad?) in issue #2.

Didn't like the look of The Terrifics when I flicked through it in the store.

I bought Sideways #1 in the store but haven't read it yet (just got back). I know its obviously Spidey-esque (and I don't like Spidey at all) but the final splash page of issue #1 has me intrigued.

Yeah i mentioned Terrifics up above.
It was interesting enough to follow up on, but the personalities didnt really pop.
I'll give it a couple more issues.

Challengers is the one i really want to see.

I'm interested in all of them except The Terrifics...although the preview of Brimstone looks a bit weak.

I read Sideways last night and...I bloody loved it. Can't put my finger on exactly why though. The art was great. The foldout cover was amazing (I can sometimes tell if I'll like a comic from the design of its villains/supporting cast; and the foldout cover villains (?) just seemed intriguing). I think part of me enjoyed spotting all the little story seeds the writer put in the first issue that can be exploited later. The first issue is virtually all backstory and set-up but its really well done.
