Tarantino went from being possibly over rated, to being severely underrated.

A backlash to a backlash one might say.

Anyway, can't wait to see how Tarantino will work in some liberal uses of the N-word to spite Spike Lee in this setting. Choice cameo by young Geordi La Forge going all Django on some pasty white uppity redshirts?

Wow, lots of QT hate here.

I'll have a wait and see attitude since, outside of an episode of ER, Quentin hasn't directed anything that didn't have a heavy R-rating.  It will either be awesome or suck balls.

Can it be worse than what JJ did to Star Trek?

While Tarantino technically rips off B, C, hell even F list movies, he uses them to craft A list stuff. He's like one of those guys who uses barnwood and driftwood to create awesome rustic furniture.

I saw the movie Reservoir Dogs was... based on? Inspired by? It was awful. Aside from broad plot points (an undercover cop) and the scene where they're all pointing guns at each other, they didn't seem similar. Tarantino's movies are best when the plot is rudimentary and the characters drive the story.

Yes, he works with very talented actors... and brings the absolute best out of them.

Tarantino is one of the great unique voices in American film. He's consistently amazing and surprising. I'd give just about anything he directs a shot, including his take on Star Trek.

You can't call someone who rips off everything he does unique

You can call him talented and a load of other positive things, but unique?

Everything?

Who did Tarantino rip off for Pulp Fiction? Or Hateful Eight? Or Inglorious Basterds? All I've ever heard this accusation for was for Reservoir Dogs.

Pulp Fiction is a favourite of mine until I found out who he ripped off for it

Which is something I avoid Googling for that exact reason

Hateful Eight he's openly admitted is a riff on The Thing

IB is some basic shlock but had a terrific opening and 2 tense scenes

Again, avoiding the Google cause I don't want to hate him and ruin everything for me

I've had enough things ruined for me

I think it’s nuts to call Hateful Eight a ripoff of the Thing. Loosely inspired by? Fine. But examples like that are the basis for which he’s being judged as a copycat, it’s pretty silly.

And that’s just his writing. He’s a fantastic director as well.

Yeah saying The Hateful 8 is a rip-off of The Thing is a huge stretch even if he said that himself. Thats like saying Galaxy Quest is ruined because The Three Amigos came first.

Who did he rip off for Pulp Fiction? I'm just finding homages.

The glowing briefcase was from a French film whose name escapes me at the moment and there are nods here and there to other movies, but it's otherwise original.  That's all it is. Same goes for Kill Bill.  There are homages to different movies, but it's not a direct rip off of a single movie.   As for Hateful Eight, it's inspired by The Thing but outside of a group of people in a secluded building in the snow with a hidden threat, there's not much else in common. It's no different than George Lucas taking the plot of Hidden Fortress and making Star Wars out of it.

There's no glowing briefcase in that one and it was produced by QT actually.  The guy who co-wrote Pulp Fiction did it, Roger Avery.

The briefcase thing was from a new wave film way back when.

"The passage from the Bible that Jules has memorized was mostly made up by Quentin Tarantino and Samuel L. Jackson. The first part about the righteous man and the tyranny of evil men is a direct quote from Ezekiel 25:17. However the second half, "And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee," is not real. It's likely that Tarantino actually included it as a reference to the Sonny Chiba film Karate Kiba (1976) as the quote is almost word for word from the opening scene. Tarantino has also said that he is big fan of the actor and is therefore likely to have seen the movie."

One of his most famous lines isn't even his

Included it as a reference? Fuuuuuck you
