Stranger Things 2 (episodes 1-4)
« on: October 27, 2017, 07:18:25 AM »
I just saw the first episode.

Didn't know Sean Astin or Paul Reiser were in this.  It's weird to see Sean Astin making out with Wynona Ryder.  His character seems good for her at the moment since he's just boringly average.  That family needs boring and average right now.

I like what they're doing with Will.  They didn't give him the Hangover sequel treatment and they are giving him just enough time alone to not break up the familiar dynamic of the four boys.

Didn't expect the final scene.

Ok, I'm caught up with you, just saw the first and totally dug the episode.

My friend plays Keith, the guy in the arcade who wants the date.

Was also thinking about that Sean Astin Wynona Ryder pairing and how odd it would have been at different times in their careers. It works really well here.

Watching episodes 2 and 3, I'm thinking Max's brother is too over the top bad.  I guess they're going for that 80's bully who would out right try to kill people or come close, but it doesn't fit too well here.  Thankfully, he's not in it a lot.

I’m glad this show is sill good and not just a one hit wonder.

Weird at times Netflix uses the same actors on their network produced shows.

With the opening I wonder how that gonna play out.  I just always assumed any experiments before 11 were dead.

On episode 3 and I'm digging it so far.

Very obvious nods to It and I like it.

I have, literally, had that same Ghostbusters argument myself lol being black in 80s suburbia can suck.

D'artagne needs to be killed with fire.

Would you rather one of your white friends in blackface be Winston?

My theory is that the thing will grow up to be a Demogorgon or at least be a dangerous monster.  That thing is obviously evil.

Why blackface? Just be a Caucasian Winston as his race is irrelevant to the character. But this has fueled my advocacy for representation. It matters. Incidentally, Winston was originally supposed to be the smartest of the team.

Dart is likely "good" but still...

They reintroduced some of Winston's smarts/skills back into his character int he Ghostbuster video games.

When my childhood friends and I played Ghostbusters we never played as the characters but as ourselves as Ghostbusters.

The only time I wasn't assumed the black character was due to their not being a black character. I'm not assuming this was the case for every minority in suburbia, but I know quite a lot can identify with that scene. It was well written as far as realism, imo.
