Discovery is a pretty ugly, bulky looking ship

There was a lot cooler, sleeker Starfleet ship designs in the first 2 episodes.

Enjoying the series but it's trying way too hard to be edgy.

Casual crew dialogue is strewn with "shits" & "fucks".

And now we have the 1st interracial gay couple between the engineer & ship's doctor.

Yeah, the language threw me off. I don't mind language when it feels natural, but this feels forced and like you said, an attempt to be edgy.

It's funnier because it's pre-Kirk.

Kirk of all people would've been dropping the c-word left, right & centre.

It feels more like Battlestar Galactica than any Star Trek I've ever seen, even the reboot movies.

Thing is, this series would still be pretty decent without the writers trying too hard to be edgy.

That's what I think to. It's a good sci fi show, but it doesn't feel like Star Trek.

Also, I can't stand the Klingons. It feels like they're trying to talk through a bunch of prosthetics  and not natural.

I did like the call out to the other captains though. And I thought Mudd was very well done.

It is weird seeing Star Trek from a military POV, especially growing up watching from a science/exploration perspective.

And it's pretty naive for Star Fleet to want to blame one person for starting a war with the Klingons...how many episodes will it take for Burnham to shake off the stigma before it gets tedious?

It's also interesting seeing female Klingons getting crucial roles in the stories so far.

And Mudd (a human...not alien) becoming a potential recurring villain is also a different angle to what we're used to seeing in ST.
