Salem's Lot is great. Barlow was genuinely terrifying

Insomnia was excellent
Its been probably 20 years since i read it, but i recall it flowed really well, and didnt seem as padded as his other works (i have nothing against his other works, but man some just go on).

Glad others mentioned Insomnia. A lot of King's stuff connects to the Dark Tower, but that one really gives you another look into the powers behind the Tower and those who defend it.

Some of the Bachman stuff is solid. I liked The Long Walk and The Running Man. Regulators was fine, but read Desperation first. Regulators and Desperation felt like essentially the same story written in two different ways. It's like King couldn't really decide which book he wanted to write, so he wrote both and put Richard Bachman on the byline for one.

Can confirm that Salem's Lot was great and not connected to Jerusalem's Lot. Read Salem's Lot before finishing the Dark Tower.

Also, his collections of novellas are outstanding. Different Seasons has the stories that the movies Stand By Me, Shawshank Redemption, and Apt Pupil were based on. Four Past Midnight isn't quite as good, but it's still pretty solid.

I'm a big fan of Carrie.

I had a collection of his Robert Bachman stuff which I liked even if those books are his lesser known stuff besides Running Man.

Salem's Lot is one I'd still like to read.
My uncle told me that this was the scariest book he ever read, after I had read (unknown to him) It, The Stand, the first Dark Tower book, Skeleton Crew, The Green Mile...basically a bunch of King shit

Not that I'm saying those books were scary, or amongst the most scary I have ever read.

I was pretty meh about Salem's Lot.

It was probably the best novel he ever did, but I would also agree that his short stories are where he really shines

King's Top 10 for me will always be The Shining, Salem's Lot, Carrie, Christine ,Cujo, Pet Semetary, It, Different Seasons, The Stand & The Talisman.

I've read many more novels but they've always felt more contractual obligations than King actually enjoying writing them.

Then after discovering Clive Barker, I kinda lost interest in King.

Do you have Rage? If so, was it good? I think that might be the only Bachman novel I haven't read.

never read that one but always wanted to.

apparently after school shootings became a thing (this book was even blamed for one at my high school back in 1992 or so) King allowed this one to go out of print

Yeah, Rage would be pretty disturbing if read today.  It was a decent read though.
