Trying To Catch Up With Modern WWE
« on: August 13, 2017, 10:21:04 AM »
I'm sorry, I've been out of the game for years. But I just got a free month of WWE Network and want tomaybe start following it again.

But a few questions come to mind.

1.  I had heard Lesnar was back but figured it was a "cameo" thing. This was years ago, as well. What happened to his UFC stuff? I thought he had a legit chance there. I'm watching the latest Raw and why are they having Heyman be his manager again? Lesnar could talk. He wasn't teh best but he could cut a promo.

2.One of the things that drew me back was an interview I heard with Madusa on X-Pac's show, talking about the current WWE Women's Division. It sounded very impressive and  i wanted to see what it was all about. Charlotte Flair certainly seems to be doing better than her brother David did back in WCW. There's also Asuka who everyone seems to be crazy for. Got any recommended matches or feuds or whatever with the current roster of ladies?

2b. What's with this Nia Jax lady? They appear to be booking her as a physical monster but she doesn't seem to have any background in bodybuilding nor is she really that big. No Awesome Kong or whatever.

3. Why is Beth Phoenix already in the HOF? I'm not disputing her worth but she was a big star a relatively short while ago. I didn't expect her to go in this fast.

-- Well, he did well there, but after a certain point the reality of age kind of catches up to you. I think he lost a few fights and had a bout with something intestinal (he did have a fight a year or so ago as a one off deal that he won IIRC but the guy he fought claimed Brock was doping, and I think he failed a drug test). Heyman's been back with him since he came back and it's probably a good thing. I don't think Brock has the same passion for wrestling as he once did, so having someone the caliber of Heyman talk for him works....and there's history there. Paul Heyman could read the phone book and I'd mark out

2.One of the things that drew me back was an interview I heard with Madusa on X-Pac's show, talking about the current WWE Women's Division. -- The stuff I can mainly recommend is alot of he NXT stuff. That stuff, especially the last two years or so has been absolute gold. They made Bayley the best pure face I can think of on there (and it's sad to see how she's been used on the main roster). Her matches with Asuka, Nia Jax, and especially Sasha Banks were all good there. Especially especially her two matches with Sasha at the Takeovers a few years ago were GOLDEN. Hell, she pulled a decent match out of Eva Marie which should make her a candidate for sainthood. Asuka likewise is the best. She's had good matches with Bayley, Nia, and so on. Even on one of the regular shows, she was fighting someone while feuding with Emma and Dane Brooke and they were trying to distract her. So just to prove a point, Asuka one shots her opponent with a kick to the head that wins her the match by K.O. with the heels freaking out that she had done that.

2b. What's with this Nia Jax lady? They appear to be booking her as a physical monster but she doesn't seem to have any background in bodybuilding nor is she really that big. No Awesome Kong or whatever.

-- Well she's pretty big, and while green has alot of potential. I don't think they've really showcased her that well on the main roster, but again on NXT she was....not like most girls. Also I'm sure her push comes from her being the Rock's cousin. I know....just how big is that family?

3. Why is Beth Phoenix already in the HOF? I'm not disputing her worth but she was a big star a relatively short while ago. I didn't expect her to go in this fast.

-- Truthfully I'm not sure. I love Beth, but I think they were running out of options for people to go in. Probably doesn't hurt that she and Edge are an item IRL. I think initially this may have been a posthumous induction for Chyna, but the 'E still doesn't seem to be too eager to add her due to her hardcore porn career and settled on Beth instead.

Thanks for the reply HJ. Apparently Lesnar had an infamously terrible promo and after that he insisted they call up Heyman and bring him back.

Anyway I got a new question. On the topic of Lesnar & Heyman, someone brought up Jericho's podcast interview with him and Paul and I went to check it out. They talked about Lesnar beating Undertaker so I decided I should check that out. I watched WM33 and was sad to see Lesnar and Goldberg was as bad now as everyone told me it was back in...2003 or so when they had their other match? But I know Brock, I know he can go. I wanted to see his match with Take rso I'm watching WM30 right now.

The story here between Bryan and Triple H is classic and good, at least from the video package of it.  But I had heard Bryan was GM now and I was wondering why isn't he wrestling. Looking it up, because of concussions and brain damage. That really sucks.

But what I'm wondering about is, I thought the WWE was different now. Super serious about injuries and wellness and wasn't there supposed to be a "PG Era" that happened where blood and bumps were seriously reduced? How could this happen to this poor guy who looked like had all the potential in the world?

Well, the Ring of Honor style that Bryan wrestled probably didn't help. That's been notoriously rough on guys over the years. Look at Nigel Mcguinness.

I do remember reading one thing though where Bryan was cleared to wrestle anywhere EXCEPT for the WWE. It was a while back though

Is this story legit?

Quote
During a TNA tour of England in January 2016, years of bad blood between Awesome Kong and Matt Hardy'€™s wife Reby Sky came to a head.

The pair were supposed to share a dressing room at the Manchester Evening News Arena (usually they would be kept apart) and Kong was not happy about it. When she saw Sky'€™s bag (as well as Hardy€™'s and their baby€™'s) she grabbed them and threw them out of the room.

A heated argument ensued, Sky yelling that she refused to be bullied. Kong dived at Sky and rammed her into a wall, before choking her out, right in front of her baby son. The TNA security team and producers broke up the attack and sent Kong on the next flight out of England. A couple of days later, she was fired.

I heard a lot of praise for Kong and I just watched a shoot interview with her and she seemed cool. But holy shit, this is a bit more than the usual stories of someone threw a punch and a little scuffle. Choking someone in front of their baby son is...yeah.

I'm not sure. I heard they had an altercation but not to that extent. Looking around it seems more or less on point.

She did smack around Bubba the Love Sponge back in 2010 after he said "Fuck Haiti" after the big quake they had there on his radio show. When he showed up at tapings, she walked right up to him and starting punching him yelling "For Haiti!"
