What if Batman started modifying his one rule slightly

What if Batman kept his no kill rule, but started systematically rendering villains as crippled as they could be and still live. Blind, deaf, and quadriplegic. How would the DCU change if he did this?

It's possible many people in Gotham would be on his his side seeing as crime rate would be way lower in short time.
On the other hand Bat family and people like Gordon would start being hostile to him while all criminals in Gotham would mostly form some kind of alliance to get rid of him and that may too much even for Batman...
Even if he is able to survive as Riv said people like Superman will take care of this...no good end for him.

Depends on the writer.

Not being sarcastic.

It wouldn't be that hard for a writer to incorporate this into the new status quo.

He the whole "villain ressurection" bit.

Blind, crippled etc.....?  Just get them very slight, none visibly noticeable cybernetics.

It also wouldn't be that hard for Batman to keep it covered up or make it look legitimate.

I mean they are in life or death situations much of the time, people often "aren't" going to end up perfectly healthy at the end of a fight.

Saw a video on the net where it pointed out that even though heroes routinely knock out people, to be that "unconscious" in real life actually has a pretty high possibility of "death" all things considered.

Being crippled, losing an eye or two, all pretty reasonable to actually happen in their battles.

It's also presumably those who are "problem" criminals ala Joker more so than the random goon.

Batman already cripples people. He jumps from a roof and lands, feet first, on their backs. Or he swings into them, kicking them in the spine.

Comic book goons are no more realistic in their damage soak and recuperative abilities than superheroes are. That guy that Batman clobbers with a jumping kick to the spine that would cripple the goon (and Batman) in real life? He wakes up in a police holding cell a few hours later with a sore back, telling his cellmate that Batman is a demon with glowing eyes who can fly.

So, will he be confused with Shadowhawk from the old Image universe?

It depends on how often he did it. If BM only used it on the Joker, Bane, Scarecrow Mr Freeze and the real bad nutcase no one wouyld care and most of the public and cops would applaud. But using it  on every hood, mugger or serial killer who quickly get him on the JLA & TT crosshairs and probably wanted the FBI even if GC Cops turned a blind eye to his methods.

Actually if a villain was left with a permanent injury/disfigurement from a previous fight with Bats, it would be a better motivation for them to be in recurring story lines afterwards.

I never read Superman but I know the general gist of Lex losing his hand because of the Kryptonite ring he made.

Did Lex ever twist the facts & try & convince the general public that Supes was directly responsible for it?

Lose his hand?

Lex got insane cancer and had to transfer his mind to a clone body

I think his hand was the first thing to go.

Don't know; is the public aware of where kryptonite and Superman are from in the last few iterations?

Yea if you put a radioative space rock on your hand, your kind of asking for it.
