Perks at Work
« on: May 18, 2017, 02:03:08 PM »

What perks do you get at work?  Our company keeps us hydrated.  They supply free soda and various kcups for coffee.  I also get all the Jewish holidays off with pay even though I am not Jewish.  Free lunch once a month.  A flexible schedule, shit they will even let your kid come to the office with you.

It has a parking lot, so I don't have to pay for parking?

Uh....

It's 5 minutes from my house?

I don't know. This is hard. We don't get anything that would be considered a "perk".

We used to get a LOT of meals/presents from the nursing homes we work with (like they'd send over a whole ton of Chik Fil A or pizza or what-have-you), but the asshole new governor issued a statement about 2 years back that state employees couldn't accept gifts of ANY KIND. And it was determined that counted. Because clearly a waiver agency sending us some chicken sandwiches as a "thank you for all you do" is the same thing as a state senator getting a Lexus.

As a clarification on how perk-less my job is: I have seen coworkers that have been literally less than 5 minutes late because they are coming from an hour away in a blizzard, and my job forces those people to put in vacation time for the 5 minutes they missed.

I work 2 hours out of 8 hour period I'm there. I got near unrestricted internet access. If I work a holiday I get double pay and a floating holiday. I get free food a few times a month. 8 vacation days and 10 personal days off a year. Discounts for a lot of different places through a perks program. Gym reimbursement for up to $150 a year. That's what I can think of off the top of my head.

tech support for student and instructors for an in-person and online educational service. Basically I don't actually have to do anything until I get a call and most calls I can resolve under 5 minutes.

I do the accounting for a Concert promotion company, so I see a lot of shows and get to go to festivals for free. Like Coachella for instance.

Yeah; far as the military is concerned, what you do with Chinese prostitutes is your business.

Just do be doing it on company time.

What do you consider a perk though?

Most employees if they have healthcare provided only have to pay at most 50% of the premiums with employers paying up to 100% for employees and family coverage.

Perks are bonus stuff that not an contractual obligation of the company but you get anyways. You're talking about benefits.
