Self loathing black man reflexively negative about show centered about black people where they actually address issues prevalent in the black community at this point in time. Surprise surprise.

That and essentially it's the story line for the pilot or first two episodes I imagine.

Who knows how long the entire season will deal with the characters.

Maybe post killing the gang bangers he starts jumping into other dimensions, meeting Superman and whatever.

Or maybe he just teams up with all the black characters and super types in the other shows?  Could work.

I assume it will have flashbacks to before he retired like arrow

^Yes to everything that.

If they actually wanted to diversify, they would have him be a black guy and NOT stereotype the environment.

Well this is def going to be a "black" show. It's in the title. But look at Mantis, that wasn't a black show in the sense that you're describing. I'd allude to other black superhero shows, but that's the only other one I can think of (apart from Cage, which does fit your description) If, however we expand to movies though: Hancock, Book of Eli, Dark Tower, etc there are plenty which don't focus on race. So I don't think Theres this precident that every black lead action story is about them being black, this one just happens to be. In fact when it comes to these sci-if action pieces, other than Luke Cage, the majority don't focus that much on being a black show. This one however looks like it's maybe trying to find its footing in that space but I took away more the message about family and the parellels with something like the Incredibles. IDK
Thanks for the detailed response, Erection Lad.
TBC, i wasnt talking about superhero shows, but shows in general, when i referred to shows with black leads.
I guess I was just hoping for something different from the show.
Less social commentary and more FUN.
I dont want an hour on the 'black struggle' and 'gangs bad, drugs bad'.
I want a past his prime BL taking on a younger generation of bad guy (and not in a ghetto; nothing wrong with a decent predominantly black neighborhood) and getting back into fighting trim while his kids provide perspective on how to handle his comeback/help him out in various ways.
Shit like that.

Right now, just going by the trailer though...seems a little preachy.

So what your telling me is you want a TV show about "Gangs good, drugs good"?

What you think this is the Avengers with Cap at the lead?

Just pulling your leg.

Make a pretty good point actually.

He gets very pissy if you don't explicitly tell him you're pulling his leg.

Back to your points, Riv, maybe bc I'm not black so don't look for it as much, but feel the balance of "black" lead pieces (shows and movies) might swing on the side of incorporating race into the narrative, but those in this genres, decidedly not. So I'm already not going into this show giving that much consideration one way or the other. Then you have a story that seems more analogous to the Incredibles than to Luke Cage, with daughters, family members, etc that are no more stereotypically black than the Cosbys were. Here's the difference though-- Cosbys, Fresh Prince, Family Matters, Blackish, other black family shows with a classic tv nuclear family, don't usually take place in environments where things are rough with gangs and drugs. So again, this show doesn't feel like it's rehashing things even if we come at this from the family side rather than the superhero side. But you've got the experience of being the black family man in America, and I get that you don't feel that this at all speaks to your world as a potential real world version of Black Lightning. Perhaps feel it panders to some stereotypical views of the black community? If so, I get that, and think your critiques are fair from that angle. Just not the "this is just like every other black show" angle.

I'm sure He'll fight ppl other than drug dealers and gang members. But let's be honest u do realize those are the bread and butter of all street lvl heroes. Daredevil, Arrow they fight a lot of drug dealers and gang members

Very true. I think that's an excellent point. That these ones are black, however, seems to be the main thing that gives some pause? IDFK.

Okay, that was good; you legit got me.
I was thinking as i read, 'The fuck is wrong with him? That is some Scourge level point missing right there'...;D

According to nobel laureate, riv, and his very witty one-man war on me to rid this thread of my differing opinions (that seemingly mirrors Black Lightning's own one man war on gangs to rid his hòme town of violence and drugs) I don't catch on so good. Perhaps he'll address this? Maybe even in a non-petty fashion? Crazier things have happened.

No, riv, and here's why. Cause I can make a stupid fucking joke w/ most people who post here and they'll get it's just a dumb joke, but anytime anyone tries to make a joke wit you, you get all up in the flesh how you've been slighted and then proceed to perseverate and focus on it to no end at the cost of having an actual discussion.

I thought we had both moved into mature discussion territory (an effortless transition from humor to discussion for like 99% of us here), and were actually exchanging some interesting points despite your incessant need to compare me to male sex organs, but for some reason you just can't get over this perceived slight to your, IDK, manhood? So yeah, I guess lets stay on the making penis jokes track you're on. Can't really get off that now that you've locked in can you?
