Mystery Science Theater 3000 The Return
« on: April 14, 2017, 07:54:09 PM »
Just finished the first episode....Reptilicus.

They've got room to improve, but not a bad first effort. Like I've been saying on FB, they need to SLOOOOOW down a little. It seems like they're cramming too much dialogue into a single joke at times.

not sold on Jonah Heston yet. There's something about his voice that gets me. He seems like he'd be better doing animated series' and what not. The new Crow and Tom Servo work pretty well though. Not really liking the new Gypsy or the way she just pops into the theater or the way Tom occasionally flies around.

It could be worse. I'll give the first episode...a B...B- maybe.

I watched the Stranger Things ad they have on Facebook and holy shit they joke too many times in a row. The ad is like 3 minutes and it's seriously non-fucking stop. The riffing works with the material, not just rapid-fire jokes.

I hope the show is better because I'm watching the whole season.

I like it but I was a fan of Jonah before this from The Nerdist Podcast, The Meltdown, and Hidden America so I might have been more prepared for his rapid fire approach. It seem more rapid fire in the first episode though.

This is the common complaint I have heard: their pacing on the jokes needs work. I have heard it evens out with time, though.

Screw this garbage.  Just go buy a rifftrax and revel in the way the pros do it.

Well Mike, Kevin, and Bill do Rifftrax.

Joel does Cinematic Titanic with Dr and Mrs. Forrester, and that Elvis guy.

It might be one thing if Joel was riffing on the new MST series.

Well he's the head writer on it. He just didn't want to be in front of the camera anymore.

Yea but it comes down to delivery and familiarity with the voices.

That is something Joel and Mike had down in their own ways. Ive seen amature riffs on youtube and such that are just cringeworthy. Not because of the content, but the sounds of these people's voices and their delivery of the lines.

i think it's also an example of trying too hard

there's a joke in Reptilicus where there's a crowd running and they go with the opening lines of Hard Day's Night....which would have been perfect and just like an old school joke....but it's kind of ruined when they throw the title of the movie in there and it becomes "It's been a hard day's Reptilicuuuuuus"

Cry Wilderness went better than Reptilicus.

Felicia Day and Patton Oswalt are doing great though.

that's good to know.

can't wait till I get to The Beast of Hollow Mountain....oh how many times I saw that as a lad.

in 7th grade I remember telling my dad that it was a monster movie on during TNT's afternoon westerns and he was skeptical....till the T-rex started attacking cattle

The beginning and ending of Cry Wilderness was filmed at my University, apparently.

Thus far Cry Wilderness has been a pretty good step up. It has the feel of a Sci-Fi era MST3K movie
