Best Main Events That Weren't World Title Matches
« on: March 05, 2017, 06:32:14 PM »

The Big Show/Strowman match a few weeks back got me thinking about this.

What were your top ten main events that weren't World Title Bouts?

Separate for TV and PPV. Let's see what you have for both.

I dont know anout best, but some non title matches that made big impressions on me were ones like

(TV)Jeff Hardy/Undertaker, where Jeff kept calling him out, and UT eventually gave him respect.
(PPV)Shawn Michaels/HHH, which marked Shawn's first match in years, unsanctioned of course.
(PPV)Shawn Michaels/Ric Flair, where HBK retired Naitch.
(PPV)Undertaker/HHH at WM. That would have been the perfect retirement match for UT.

Pretty rare for a Main Event to be a non-title match, though.

Was 'Taker v. Mankind Hell In The Cell the ME on that card? That'd be up there as I'm pretty sure there wasn't a title on the line.

World War 3 '96 had a good finish. Came down to (if I remember right) Luger, Savage (the previous years winner), Giant, Nash, Hall & Syxx. Basically 5-on-1. Luger getting booked to nearly pull off the win was pretty good. The last 2 minutes or so of him eliminating one after the other before getting tossed by a recovered (from The Torture Rack) Giant on a double elimination was pretty hype. I don't remember shit else from the match, though. Split screen, 3 rings...a lot to try and concentrate on.

Sting v. Flair, last match of WCW, the penultimate "main event".
