LoZ: Breath of the Wild
« on: March 04, 2017, 02:33:05 AM »

The Zelda franchise has finally evolved, and it's done so with aplomb.

Fuck this game is good, and fuck the world is HUGE

I have the Wii U version, btw

I'm starting it now, been looking forward to it all day.  From what I've read this thing is open world Zelda with elements from things like the Bethesda games and Dark Souls series.  Basically all the good stuff without the clunky shit.  What is the second screen used for on the Wii U version?

My Switch doesn't arrive until Monday. Got my Special Edition sitting here ready to go though.

Nothing.

There was one gyroscope necessary puzzle (so not sure how that puzzle works on Switch?) so far, and there's gyroscope aiming if you want,****** but they took out GamePad functionality to make both releases more similar.

You can play on the GamePad and that's about it. But except for the one puzzle, I've been using the Pro

******Edit: sorry nope there's motion control aiming if you use a Wiimote/Nunchuk, but no gyroscope aiming

Edit edit: OK THERE'S BOTH

But one major plus about all that:

Switching between which controller is in command is as simple as flicking a joystick, and it's instant, so that was a nice move.

I read a review where Zelda stutters a bit on Switch.

Of the 10 villains, so far as things of this nature can be remembered going back afore the days the board crashes, 9 filled with dread and cursed in vain at the sight of Master.

There's some frame rate drops on both consoles

Who gives a fuck?

I read yesterday if you stand on the rail of a bridge in front of an npc they try and convince you not to jump.

Been hearing the weapon breaking system is kinda bullshit. Any truth to it?

Only if you had particular expectations for it

The game is designed around using up weapons, then scavenging new ones

At a pretty fast clip

The only exception is the Master Sword, but even it needs to "recharge" after you use it too much

It's a negative aspect of an amazing game, so yes there is truth to it but it's nowhere near a deal-breaker.

It's balanced enought that you never run out of weapons, so what do you mean?

And I notice the more hearts and stamina I have, i.e. the higher level (I am max at this point) I am, the more often better weapons drop and the more often they have Durability Up + as additional statistics.
