Here's one people probably thought they would never see:

The Psychopathic Heroes for the 90's!

Asylum:  Composed of Darkforce energies, can make you see your worst fears, memories, truth's or lies
Pretty Persuasions:  Taps into the "sapphic" part of the brain and the human libido for power, can make psychic constructs
Mathemanic:  Mathematic telepathy and telekinesis
Coronary:  Made of a glass like structure, can control the body and it's processes while manipulating his own form
Impulse:  Enhanced strength and speed (supposedly he can react at the "speed of thought")

The Yin to the New Warriors Yang!

As a team; despite having been labeled as villains in the best, they've been at worst anti-heroes and even spent time adored by the public of New York City.  And were even the Maryland Initiative Superhero team.

Basic Descriptions of their abilities:

Beyond whatever training they got from their original corporate "owners" Genetech, they've also received training from Night Thrasher and some from Taskmaster as well.  Though according to Night Thrasher the Genetech training wasn't the best, at least for functioning as a team.  But he said they did better than rookie New Warrior's so that's something I suppose.

Interestingly enough, Night Thrasher refers to them as "big shots" and Speedball says they are all still in their teens.

Psionex Fight 1:

Fight 1 gives a pretty good break down of how all their powers work:

Name:  Impulse

Powers: Enhanced Speed and Strength

Strength:  Strong enough to punch through concrete walls and smash computers
Speed:  Gets referred to as being able to "react at the speed of thought" and his running speed never seems to be more than somewhere around "blur" speed.

I almost have to wonder if his power set is actually something more akin to 3-D Man/Triathlon.  Being more around 3x general human stats or so than an out and out speedster.

Being able to react at the speed of thought would put him somewhere around....270mph.

Careers:  Ex-Gangmember, Lab Rat and finally Superhero/Government Agent

Rank:

Well his tale of the tape isn't that great sneak attack and drugs gets him a win on Namorita, misses speedball, gets beat down by Night Thrasher in their first fight but manages to do okay enough in their second one.  Managed to get his back broken by Terrax and lose to Marvel Boy. But he did manage to neat a member of Eugenix, a blur-level speedster herself with a couple energy blasting weapons on top of that.

His most recurring sparring partner seems to be Night Thrasher.  Which considering their respective life stories I guess is fitting.

When he was with The Initiative he was one of the people at the front line when it came down to the invasion of Asgard, a city full of gods.

Name:  Pretty Persuasions

Power:  Libidic Path/Kinectic....interesting enough the Libido according to Jug is simply "psychic energy".  .

Like any good psycho-kinectic she can make constructs of psychic energy, strong enough to restrain and whip around Nova.
Most consistent tactic seems to be trying to choke out people with her whip, Nova, Speedball, Eugenix member.

Career:  Stripper, Lab-Rat, Superhero/Government Agent

Rank:  Her initial victory over Nova, she does have an "interrupted" win/dominance over Speedball. Lost to Silhouette, Lost to Marvel Boy.  Beat one of the Eugenix members.

Personality:  Despite her general sexualized behavior, power set and costume.....doesn't actually like working as a Stripper despite willingness to do so.  Initially talked with an accent, enjoys pain and makes a lot of sexual innuendo's.  Though considering the nature of her power she may simply be doing all of this to pump up her access to her power source.

Manacles and a Knife (according to this she gets power from pleasure "and" pain, would explain her being into pain so much and wanting others to hit her) and has enough control over emotions, even if she where to tear you apart, bit by bit she could make you like it.

Most of her constructs seem to be formed in her hand but here she makes some random bands form around Namorita, presumably able to hold her.

According to this her constructs are capable of "libido-enhancing".

This may be a semi-kind of impressive dodge feat, she "seems" to be dodging those energy blasts while fighting off another robot while at the same time having a two-way conversation with her, Coronary and Night Thrasher and doesn't seem that put off by it.

Name:  Asylum

Powers:  Can make others see an inner truth or lie by enveloping them in her own Darkforce mist/energy.  Can use the Darkforce offensively as energy blasts, grow in size and is just Darkforce energy herself.

Her mask seems to be what connects her to the mainstream world/dimension.  Knock it off her and she's out of the fight for unknown amounts of time.  Usually brief but hasn't come back from the last time, though usually the mask just gets knocked off while she got exploded from the inside. So she could be dead.

Aside from her mask; being that she's essentially a form of mist/energy, basically intangible to normal attacks.

Despite being referenced as being able to do darkforce energy blasts she never actually uses them in any fight in that issue or later on.

One strange fact; despite one of her first acts being to engulf Night Thrasher in her darkforce form, in the issues 52 and 53 of the New Warriors, they reference him not having ever been in them before.....

Career:  Former mental patient, Super Hero/Government Agent

Name:  Coronary

Powers:  Control over others biological systems, form shifting, control of his molecular density and superhuman strength in the Namorita-Rage range.

Though who knows; maybe it takes a level of control and focus not readily available on the battle field.

Despite being superstrong Coronary's plasticized body is incredible fragile in comparison to what he can dish out.  A fall from a few stories up can break him to pieces.

His most common tactic seems to be using his biological systems control to cause people serious headaches in one form or another.

Career:  Medical Student, Lab-rat, Superhero/Government Agent

Biological control:

Super Strength/Phasing/Form Shifting:

Despite being able to phase may still be vulnerbale to Firestar's microwave blasts in that form.

The final member of Psionex:

Name:  Mathemanic

Powers:  Arithmetic Psychiccer, math based telepathy and telekinetic powers, a genius

Range from mid-level Telepath/Telekinetic to possibly low-end reality manipulation.

Career:  Student, Lab Rat, Superhero/Government Agent

Telepathy.

By his second appearance he had telepathy, telekinesis, levitation and the capacity to make protective shields.

By his third appearance he could also levitate multiple people at a time and cause them to age and de-age:

His next big appearance he could do this to Impulse....whatever it is:  He seems to have somehow accidentally caused Impulse to either be levitating in multiple "pieces" while still being alive and in a lot of pain or he has phased him into the wall very strangely and painfully so.

This team reminds me of DV8 from Wilstorm. They're both kinda trashy.

Pretty Persuasions particularly reminds me of Bliss.

Well; outside of Pretty Persuasions the teams not really prone to Trashy-ness.

Even Impulse, the former gang member, was pretty everyday looking in his non-heroic identity.

One thing this makes me think of after doing the thread is; what was up with Marvel-New York back in the 90's?

I mean, Spider-Man, Daredevil, Night Thrasher, Punisher all consistently taking out or down criminals and gang bangers.

Psionex at least briefly runs around straight out just killing gangs all over the place.

But it still has a huge gang and crime problem during that era.  I mean; how many people even want to join a gang, especially in that kind of environment.
