No but I've been eyeing up the hardback of Year One which I think includes the first fifteen issues or so. Worth a go?

Cheers.

Yeah, one of the best books out, but I'm well behind, need to catch up on the last trade's worth.

I gave it a chance about a year ago and bought the first 3-4 trades (an impulse buy). It was okay (I'd need to reread to stir the memory of it) but I vaguely remember being disappointed.

Well I remember reading up to a certain point (ie. I gave it a chance) and thinking I'm not buying any more of these because the story just didn't grab me enough and/or was too slow paced with crappy action.

If you want I can re-read the books and get back to you with a detailed analysis/review.

It is a hard one to give an opinion on.

The characters are very thin and the plot is super decompressed. If you read Hickman's Avengers arc it is very similar in style to that.

However the dystopian society the story is set in is pretty interesting and I am very curious to see how the plot goes.

Liam did you ever bother getting this? I'd be willing to let my trades go for half price plus postage. I'd say they are mint condition.

No worries.

Yes like many comics the premise is good but the execution is poor.

Will say though I just started reading Saga and it is fucking brilliant (based on the 1st volume so far) - probably the best opening 6 issues I have read of an ongoing.

The Boys is the best written comic of all time.

Get rekt, (fe)males who cannot appreciate Billy Butcher.

I really like the second half of the series with the Homelander slowly going more off the rails leading to his power grab and then the stuff with Butcher.

The earlier volumes were much weaker for me though. A few great character moments dropped throughout but I considered dropping it based on the early volumes.

Appreciate the offer, but I already got the first trade for Christmas. Haven't read it yet so I'll have to see if I enjoy it.

Thanks though!

No worries amigo - hope you enjoy the book more than I did.

I just picked up the Miracleman/Marvelman first three trades (the Alan Moore ones) and have to say they were pretty good. I imagine had I read them 35 years ago I'd have been blown away. Reading the third volume though was probably the only time I've ever felt a comic actually had too many words per page. But overall great stuff.

Has anyone read the Gaiman follow-ups? Are they worth getting? Review scores are lower on amazon at least.

I finally grabbed the most recent trade last month (which is like a year behind the issues, I think), and enjoyed jumping back in.

Death and his story are ok, but it's all the provincial leaders jostling for influence that really makes it for me. Then again, that's usually how I am, more into villains and side characters than the main protagonist...though Hickman seems to maybe be aware of that aspect if this book.
