Well played, DC (Spoilers for the Superman family books)
« on: November 12, 2016, 08:14:22 PM »

So I was reading the latest issue of Action Comics and something occurred to me. They're basically resetting the status quo, while updating it.

NuLois has been killed off and now Post-Crisis Lois has, literally, taken her place. She goes to interview Lex Luther and he starts talking about hoe he distrustful the "new" Superman (Post-Crisis.) How people shouldn't trust and alien with questionable values/motives. He wants to be the man Metropolis looks up to. This is setting up the same premise Lex had for hating Superman in the old continuity, without disregarding the new canon.

Also, byou creating a "new" Clark Kent, who has been vetted as 100% human and NOT Superman, it opens up a way to allow the Post-Crisis version to take back his secret ID when the "new" Clark inevitably dies or whatever.

So we'll soon have both Post-Crisis Lois and Clark back at the Planet. And they didn't need to reboot anything. It's pretty smart, imo. Now my only question is how will they explain Jon? Adoption?

Yes, that's obviously what they have been doing. And in a very ham-fisted and creepy fashion.

Lois Lane dies? No problem, her doppelganger from an alternate universe takes her place, no one is the wiser for it. Likewise, eventually Clark Kent. If anything, that's a horror movie plot. Think about it in in-universe terms; most people would be rather creeped out if their friend/daughter/coworker died and was replaced by an identical doppelganger.

As for Lex Luthor? Reading the books by Jurgens, it just feels like he's continuing off from 1999 or something.

And some things are just inexplicable -- like how Krypto's appearance suddenly changed.

Isn't alt Lois like 10 years older?

How is that not noticeable?

They have mentioned here age and looking at bit different. But she's white so it should be a HUGE difference.

I'd agree if it weren't a comic. Suspension of disbelief is the name of the game.

As nuts as all of this is, I do think it will be resolved more satisfactorily at the end of Rebirth. Somehow the proper timeline will be resolved and Superman and Lois will end up having been there all along or something.

I hope not.

Best thing would be pre-52 Superman and Lois dying, only for yet another alternate version of the duo to take up their roles; both as 52 Clark Kent and Lois, and John's parents. Best gimmick since Wicker Sue.

It's all pretty convoluted for something designed to bring people back or new people in, particularly the third Clark Kent, but that's DC.  Still better than 90% of current Marvel, though.
