Good first episode.

Did any of you see the original movie?  El Rey played it a few months ago.

It got me interested, but I may wait till I have a couple before I watch again.  Seems like it might be unsatisfying viewing week to week.

I'm going to rent it from Amazon this week.  Is the show a new story with the same concept, or a fleshed out retelling of the film?

Hard to say, but so far it seems to follow the same idea.

The movie was basically like Jurassic Park, in a way. And that makes sense since the film was based on a book by Michael Crichton.

The park was created and had three sections.  Wild West, Midevil, and Roman zones.  It's the same idea.  You go on vacation and pick a zone to go to.  They notice the machines are malfunctioning in the midevil and roman zones, but just keep an eye on it.  Then shit gets worse.

They make it a point to say that it is as if a virus or something is spreading to the machines.  And also that they are just as complex as actual humans as far as what makes them.  In some cases, machines actually designed the machines, so the actual people who made the park aren't fully sure how they even work.

We are only one episode in, but it looks like so far it might just be "Westworld" and leave out the other two zones.

I really liked the first episode. I kind of knew I would from the trailer.

The suspense and sense of dread in the behind-the-scenes offices of Westworld is as thick as some of the most popular girls in the Jungle Room. I get the feeling that the staff really doesn't know what they've created, but are so caught up in the process of creation they just don't care.

Evan Rachel Wood is heavenly.

Love the first episode, glad to see HC in unanimous agreement. It's during these moments where I'm nostalgic for Astro to pop up and take a shit on the things we like for arbitrary reasons.

I think it actually had a sequel; and an official "kind of"-sequel with "Gangster World" or something like that.

Astro would stare at the night sky and criticize it for not trying something new. "This is NOT ambitious. Just more of the same we see each and every night. Just a... Vanilla Sky."

The impending sense of dread throughout the first episode intrigued me as to how this comes crashing down.

Also Ed Harris made me hate him - Such a good actor.

Yeah he's straight fucking evil, yet I'm dying to know what he's searching for.

Already the mood of the show is different from the movie. In the movie, the androids were out-of-control machines. In the show, they're more like a new life form that's been enslaved by their creators.

Yeah, we need Jeff Goldblum to deliver his signature warning of life finding a way.

Episode 1 was amazing. Love the music... that rendition of Paint It Black was crazy cool. And the father android was so damn terrifying at the end. Holy shit.
