Preacher, anyone?
« on: May 16, 2016, 10:07:31 PM »

Anyone plan on watching? Starts next week.

Never read the comic regularly, but the trailers so far seem to be all over the place. Not in a bad way.

If we cant have Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark any more, this will work. A non blonde Tulip doesnt really bother me, but the Actress (who i havent Googled) doesnt seem very hot.
Arse Face make up (or cgi, not sure which) looks neat though.

Tulip is played by Ruth Negga who is pretty fucking hot.

I'm going to check it out but will have low expectations.

It's gonna be probably about as bad as the comic is, overall.

The comic has some great moments, but isn't great overall.

I'll watch it. Only read a couple issues of the comic so I won't really make any comparisons. Like Lucifer.

I think it would have been better in HBO's hands, but whatever.  I'll still watch it.

This especially hearing how they changed the beginning and haven't heard a thing about them having the Saint of Killer in it. Not expecting much or it to be any good.  Yes I'm a big fan of the comic and will probably be in here bitching about how bad this is.

TBH, I hated the Preacher comic. The ideas and concepts were good enough, but I could never get past how proud of itself the book seemed to be over spamming 90's EXTREME violence, vulgarity, and gross-out moments.  But I am interested in the show, and I will give it a shot.

Well okay then, that was a quirky hour and a half.
I couldnt find anything not to enjoy about it.
It kept my attention throughout, thats for sure.
While i still dont think Ruth Negga is all that hot, she's no box troll, and was great in the part.
Its funny that of the two, Arse Face gets subtitles though, as Cassidy was harder to understand. Dear God that has to be the thickest brogue i have EVER heard.

That first ep exceeded my expectations by a lot. Well paced, well acted, didn't pointlessly hold back on the core things you might have hoped for from reading the comic. I would have really not been a fan of a cliff hanger on Cassidy or "the word" for example, but we got all of it w/lit feeling rushed and they probably got most people who tuned in ready for more w/o needing to resort to those tactics. That space opening, the shots, the cast, the whole sequence of the show worked wonderfully for me.

I was surprised at the fact that almost nothing at all was from the book, so my initial reaction was "come on, what the fuck?", but viewed as a separate entity it could have some potential.

I don't recall the book too well at this point other than the characters, but I liked the new touch with the woman smashing the iPad cause kids are fighting over it and the thing is going through Africa and what not, and the plane scene, and all that.
