ICT / Re: MCU Captain Marvel vs DCCU Superman
« on: March 14, 2019, 10:31:15 PM »
Behind-the-scenes reports have several marvel cast members irritated with Cap Marvel - and in truth, in all fairness.

Can you give a source on that?

Filmgob is spreading that rumor.  Filmgob is also one of the guys who thinks Marvel stole ideas from DC for their movies and that Marvel pays critics to give good reviews.  He is an insane DC fan.

You cant pay everyone on the internet and there are a LOT of independant reviews out there.

Are we to believe that all the massive numbers of good reviews for the Doom Patrol show have been paid for??? No, because I have eyes and a sense of taste and I know for myself its that damn good (IMHO one of if not the outright best live action comic tv show to date- shits on everything CW and better than most if not all netflix)
So there is a second source for the rumor?

Superman is only going to get more powerful in upcoming films and the vids on Youtube that fully nerd out his powers really put him in perspective. This version of Superman is a super speed peer of the Flash without getting into his other power and viciousness in a fight - versus Mary Sue glowy hands.

Cap Marvel gets a space cheese feat it's still just that, space cheese. When she has to buckle down and fight she's a less powerful brick by far with hand blasts and an EMP

Superman and Thor are the respective top dogs in their cinematic universes and after Shazam I think it's going to be even more part of the DCU DNA.

I think the infinity stones by themselves are getting nerfed a bit.
What?

Not really since he doesnt own the characters. He can disagree with the path but he doesn't get to decide where the characters go. Its no different than Dan Slotts Spider-Man being the same as Stan Lee's Spider-Man.

But I’m saying in terms of power. Are you guys retroactively applying this stuff now?

For example if this Rorschach fights Deathstroke and somehow beats him, are you saying that that is true for how the original character was portrayed in the original series?
Retroactively applying what? These showings didn't happen until recently, but the capacity for this exact shit was always obvious from a battle board standpoint. Until the showings actually happened it was easy (and accurate) to label as speculation.

DC can easily come out and say these are similar but not the actual versions, or DC can say they're a continuation of the originals.

Thor, Hulk, and Superman are likely the only heroes who could even affect Captain Marvel. She's far stronger and faster than Diana.

Wonder Woman will have to stick to being stronger in the comics.
Let's see how fast Diana is in WW 1984 when the main villian is a Flash like character. Snd of course DC will just give Diana strength feats to exceed CM since Diana is the premier female comics ICON. They won't let this terrible mockery of comics Hierarchy to stand.

Or we could debate on the fight based on the already 3 movies Diana has vs Carol's 1. Since 1984 doesn't come out until June next year.

We have really only seen Diana unload at full strength once. Is Carol mightier than Doomsday? That is my mark. He wasnt able to Ko her snd and neither was Superman. I'm looking for a KO or it's not a win.
Superman absolutely KOed her. You really think she'd let him do what he did for a full minute if she was capable of fighting?

You've been annihilated on that lie several times.

Movie Diana isn't a competitor here.
Kod where? And how come he had to hit her twice, once by using flight and speed, just to daze her Now post her being kod.
We're not going through that again.
You are flat-out incorrect on this topic. The movies do not support any of your assertions, so you choose to lie instead.

About a comic book character's movie version. For some reason.
Diana was either KOed (which means unable to continue fighting or physically unconscious) or she thought it would be cool for Batman to get brutalized by an insane Superman who just wrecked her like nothing.

If this came out pre-Iron Man it might be more enjoyable, but as it is, it's a by-the-book, average MCU film.

Captain Marvel was pretty dull as a character. I'm not sure it's because of the writing or the acting. Probably a combination of both. I had no real interest in her, and it's too bad she will be such a big part of the final Avengers movie, which really should be focusing on the core Avengers.

The Skrulls were entertaining, and them being the good guys was a nice twist, though not unexpected, as the Krees are pretty much established as villains. I REALLY wish this movie came out a few years ago so they could have used the Skrulls in Agents of SHIELD. I think the writers of that show - who are superior in every way to the cinematic MCU writers - would have had a field day with them.

The de-aging of Coulson and Fury was really, REALLY good. And I don't think this movie was too harsh on Fury. He's not the Fury we know, who's grizzled, experienced and used to being around superheroes and aliens. This was all new to him. That being said, his interactions with the cat got on my nerves pretty quickly.

Jude Law was kind of wasted in this film. He's a really good actor and his role was pretty bland. In fact, all I can remember him having for the last few years are shitty roles.

I agree with Project CornDog that the enemies seemed really weak and nonthreatening as a whole. The final fight seemed like something everyone wanted to just get out of the way.

The story itself wasn't very compelling. And it could have been, as Alan Moore dealt with similar subject matter in his great WildCATS run. Again, I don't know if it was the writing or the acting.

At the end of the day, it wasn't the man-hating garbage fire or the Greatest Superhero Movie of All Time that the movie's haters and supporters wanted it to be, and people who are saying it was come off to me as obviously seeing it through their ideological lens.

Marvel wanted to use the skrulls from day one, but went with the Chitauri because Fox owned the rights for Skrulls along with the FF.

I've had conversations where people were full of shit and/or trying to pretend to be something that they weren't.  It's never a good look.

But you are right in that I haven't seen the movie yet.  I'll leave this here for now and on Tuesday night, I'll have a clear idea of how it all plays out.  I'll probably come back here and say "NOTHING'S CHANGED YOU BALD PRICK" but I will give it a fair shake.
You might say that. I think Nick Fury using the mystery of his eye injury to add gravity to a point is a useful, legitimate conversational tactic.

And that's why you always leave a note.

Since there has always been a sense of gravitas and mystique surrounding the removal of his eye, it's a bit disappointing that it ends up as a joke.  It's like if Star Wars Episode III had Vader slip on a banana peel and fall into lava to explain why he needed the suit.  I wasn't expecting anything big and monumental, but I figured it would at least be something dramatic.

Especially considering that scene in Winter Soldier where he talks about losing an eye because he made a trust issue.

"Last time I trusted someone I lost an eye."
That actually winds up fitting perfectly, then.

But it kills the drama of that scene in Winter Soldier.
Not for me. People say shit like that all the time in tense situations.

Pretend to be a badass to hide an embarrassing ouchie?  I guess they could but those who do are generally very weak people overall.
I guess if you want to oversimplify something because you haven't seen it or ever had a conversation in your entire life, that would make sense.

They can still televise it, the debate just won't be "moderated" by Hannity or Laura Ingraham.

CNN is the one that gave Trump legitimacy in the first place.

Well wasn't it implied or revealed somewhere that Dr. Manhattan actually created the DC Universe?

He created the current DCU post flashpoint by fucking with the timeline.

I remember, a long time ago in a more active Herochat far away, a good number of posters were convinced he was the equivalent of Silver Surfer.  Of course, people had an inflated sense of the Surfer (imo anyway) back then as well, so that was probably a factor.  Still pretty off base.

I remember a long time ago (in a rather more active HC) half this board seriously argued the original Dream Team would massacre a team of street-levelers made up of Batman, Daredevil, Captain America, etc. in a pick up game.

It was, almost self evidently, complete and utter nonsense then and now, but I'd still place good odds on it happening if it were somehow ever published in any shape or form.

I just wouldn't necessarily use it as real evidence Jordan's a better athlete than Bruce Wayne.

I get your point but this isn't quite the same thing. MJ will never actually face Batman. If it did happen it will still be a fictional character vs fictional character.

We are still dealing with the same Doc Manhattan from Watchman. Of course it's all fiction so it's gonna be all over the place. It seems like most people downplayed DM because he was the only entity with powers in Watchmen which isnt a very objective way of looking at it when you start getting into areas if time manipulation and reality warping. At that point you really need a direct comparison to decide who's more omnipotent.

What I'm trying to say is comics are silly.

I think you’re confused. No matter what DC says Moore wrote it, initially. It’s in the vein of the original Doc but still different. In the original storyline Doc didn’t do anything above a high end Surfer, and was portrayed as a god in a low powered verse much like a high end Surfer would be in GI joe.

People time and time again get confused, as you said there are levels of omnipotence. Not all fictional universes are equal.

Powerful in the Gi joe verse doesn’t mean powerful in DC/ Marvel etc. This Doc is clearly a super high end beast and posibblynmore powerful than Mxy. You can’t retroactively apply stuff to Moore’s Doc.
That's not how editorial edict works. Unless they flat out say it's a different one, like the Kingdom Come Superman appearing in JSA, it's the same one.
