Seriously dope shit in this series. Windu was a goddamned beast. Still though, Yoda going full "lemme go ahead and snatch that big ass droid carrier out the sky, oh? You want it too lil' nigga?" mode was the best moment in Star Wars history.

Yoda is always the greatest. Second only to Optimus goddamned mother fucking Prime.

Thought Pokemon was legit back in the day. I still enjoy me some Diggersby tho's. As a kid you don't think about the internal logic within the universe.

Given that these are sentient creatures with the ability to convey emotions on a vast spectrum, its more than a little fucked up.

They're battle slaves and sometimes they fight to fucking death. They have to. Or else. It's hilarious.

Also there are no actual animals in the Pokemon verse. Every bit of meat you see is from a slaughtered Pokemon that got turned into food.

It's pretty great.

PB - regarding your standards for quality, given what I've seen from and your level of insight/intelligence, which I consider top tier of the board, I have to admit I probably have a lower bar than you. I like a lot of shit hahaha. I'm easily pleased if it hits a certain note.

I will say its worth a look if you're at a book store or something.

Like, try reading the first few chapters and see how it goes. I would hope you'd like it but I cant say.

Hey Jook, were there ever any comics or books written from the POV of the grunt-level Stormtroopers?

Eh, not really man. The closest they ever got to making one was the Death Trooper novel.

Essentially storm trooper zombies and there were few regular troopers who were immune. They are the main characters.

Oh yeah man, the prequel era EU stuff was great. You had consistency within stories, entire plot arcs and even acknowledgment of other forms of media.

Theres a novel based on Coruscant that focuses on Greivous that I cant remember the name of. In it they reference the Commando game and a few instances in it.

It's like they had a coordinated enough effort to ensure everything fit as well as possible.

There is no ridiculous space cheese. No nonsense. It's all very much within what Star Wars is all about.

Even Kar Vastor, this guy who is supposedly as strong as Yoda, is only stated to be as powerful. Yes he does some powerful shit, but when you read the story it makes sense why Mace views him this way even though we as readers know that's not true.

I'm telling you man, it's good stuff.

To be fair, I've just read a scattering of books and comics over the years. And heard about others and the games etc.  That is why my comments were general, and I think they are true about these kinds of things--in general. But perhaps my glimpse at the Star Wars EU gave me the wrong impression. Perhaps the continuity is diligently maintained, all the material is consistent with each other, and the quality of the writing is typically as high as the writing for the mainstream continuity. If so, my bad. (I've seen more Star Trek novels and such, and many sucked bad.)

I think you'd be very surprised at how solid most of the EU stuff is.

I'm serious when I say if you consider yourself a Star Wars fan, look into some of the stories I mention.

Its actually great storytelling. Legit stuff.

The real problem is what was stated earlier. Power creep slowly set in and so very rarely we got shit like Nihilus fucking up a planet at shit. Only two other people  can even do that. It's the exception not the rule.

Thrawn trilogy is a goddamn classic for the ages as well.

Just a suggestion for reading materials...

Star Wars: Shatterpoint - gritty, intense, real. Civil war on Mace Windu's homeworld and the introduction of Kar Vastor, a deeper character than you would ever think he could be.

Star Wars: Dark Rendevous - Dooku seeks to meet with Yoda in secret dangling the possibility of him returning to the Jedi order in front of Yoda. Is it a lure, truth? Great story. Super fucking sad in certain moments. Whie is cool too. Awesome assassin droids too.

Republic Commandos: Hard Contact - Man o man. Badass as fuck. Sev, Fixer, Scorch and Boss make up this elite black ops squad. Seriously bad ass dudes and the action in it is legit af. They touch on some philosophical issues regarding their clone nature and the entire book series really drives home the fact that clones are equally human as any being in Star Wars. I challenge you to not to find these guys as some of your favorite characters in Star Wars after reading.

Just some food for thought. Give these a try if you can, there older so they should be pretty cheap.

DC Drones / Re: Superman's no kill code
« on: March 24, 2017, 03:33:39 PM »
The stakes always seem extremely low in comics.

When death means nothing at all, whats the fucking point?

When DC reboots shit again, what's the point?

Shit has to matter. It needs to be important when Hawkeye sacrifices his life to blow up that huge gunship in Avengers: Disassembled. He needs to be remembered for the hero he was and the sacfrifice he made. Not brought back for the sake of fanboys or maintaining the status quo.

Make shit last. Build stories that move forward with these new developments without looking back.

Grievous' backstory, the Mandalorians entire history, mother fucking Sora (Vapaad LOL Mace) Bulq's entire life, etc.

The EU was literally brimming with amazing shit that helped build an amazing extended universe.

Indeed, despite all of this amazing work done the sheer level of shitiness that the films showcase turned me off of the product on the whole.

Movies have multiple writers and editors and supervisors working on the same continuity to make sure it works well together. The level of realism and consistency tends to be higher. The problem with something like the ESU is that while some books are great, overall the thing can spiral out of control pretty fast. There's just not enough money to oversee each writer and make sure it all works really well together.

This just isn't true for a large portion of the EU. Which story arcs specifically are you referencing? Your post reads exactly like someone who has very little first hand knowledge of actual EU stories and instead sounds like a parroted version of what AP said.

I'll just start with the prequel stuff...

The vast majority of the prequel era novels outside of the movies simply add a greater dimension to an otherwise shitty universe built around 3 shitty films.

Dark Rendevous is amazing. That entire story arc is fucking amazing. I've already listed another. I can list tons of these instances of genuine character and world building that is not only good story telling but entirely consistent with Star Wars Canon.

That's an arc spanning years and covering so many characters it's insane. From Dooku to Anakin to Yoda and his first years training younglings all the way to a Jedi named Whie who foreshadowed Anakins fall.

There are novels/comics/entire portions of series that elaborate or ads to the history and characters of Plo Koon, Ki-Adi-Mindi, Kit Fisto, Depa Billapa, and literally tons and tons of other characters in which the EU fleshed them out and were entirely within Star Wars Canon.

I'm leaving out a metric ton of other equally valid EU stuff that is as consistent if not more so than the film's. I have actual experience reading and absorbing this stuff.

Star Wars was my WarHammer 40k before WarHammer 40k showed me the light.

You seem to be speaking from ignorance as your comment is so vague and unsubstantial one cannot possibly glean anything from it.

Read Star Wars: Shatterpoint if you ever get a chance, and you are a fan of Star Wars. I think it may open people up to the EU. This novel is some gritty shit and far from the realm of space-cheese that we see with some of the higher level characters.

That's what I was getting at.

There are only a few silly characters pulling off silly things. To take those few instances and assign them to the EU as a whole is simply not accurate.

There are a lot of EU stories that are as good if not better and more fleshed out than the films.

There are so many good EU prequel stories in particular that have been essentially erased. To say nothing of the early era Jedi and Sith.

It's wasted potential.

As someone who really dove into the EU after watching the films, the EU stories added so much to universe. Sure, having film era character perform ridiculous stuff makes little sense, but the back story that was developed for the other characters were amazing and it was a waste to get rid of them.

Retcons are a thing that could have been used in this instance.

They should have kept the non-film era EU stuff.
