ICT / Re: Thor vs Lady Thor

I'm playing Marvel Puzzle Quest at the minute ... one stage sees you fighting Juggernaut and the intro says 'Juggernaut is no Hulk but he's tough.'  This is the same Juggernaut who gave WW Hulk his first real challenge and has gone toe to toe with the Green Goliath many times ... apparently he's no longer in the Hulk's league either. Who is?

Well, Juggy is only a 1-star character in MPQ. :)

ICT / Re: Kitty's X-Men vs. Rogue's Avengers

At first blush, I'm thinking Rogue's squad has it. The biggest doubt I have is teamwork, though. That X-Squad should have a LOT more effective teamwork given the history they all have together (minus OML, but he presumably has a similar history with his own X-Men).

Are Rogue's 'mates shown as being effectively working together on a consistent basis? Because they have the firepower advantage as far as I can tell.

Yeah, I dig Bizzaro, but he gets mauled here, unfortunately.

Kraft singles

$117m domestic for the opening weekend, comfortably above industry estimates of $80-$100m. For comparison, the first Garfield film took $62m domestically for the opening weekend, and ASM2 took $91.6 (but slowed dramatically after that and ultimately grossed about $60m less than the first ASM).

It's the 7th highest domestic opening weekend for an MCU film (behind Iron Man 2 and 3, GotG 2, Cap: Civil War and the two Avengers films). Did well internationally too (actually the international opening weekend total was higher than GotG2 by some way, not sure about the others on that list).

I, honest to god, thought you were comparing this flick to how well the Garfield [the cat] movie opened, and I was very confused for a moment.

Like, "Don't worry, guys! Spider-Man did better than Garfield!"

Oh, I just checked; it IS pretty abhorrent on a cell.

It's different, and yeah... I'll have to get used to it. But it's not hideous.

I haven't tried it on a mobile, though.

General Chat / Re: NRA is going all in on the Us vs Them mentality

The NRA are openly sycophantic, borderline psychopathic, old pathetic racists who worship the big bucks of their donors. It's amazing to me so many people are in favor of them. They don't even pretend to be worthwhile.

Game Cage / Re: Any of you nerds play Pathfinder?

I was looking at this game last weekend at Half-Price Books. I couldn't help but think "If I want to play D&D, I'll just play D&D". But it looked far too complicated for my board game peeps.

ICT / Re: Guardians of the Galaxy vs Darth Vader

Nothing about movie Vader that I can recall makes me think "There's a guy that will give Groot a lot of trouble". I don't think movie-level force telekinesis or the lightsaber are going to bother Groot that much, but Groot could pretty easily slam Vader all about.

Even if Vader could stand up to Groot (let's say he goes all hack-and-slash using prequel-level flippy shit, and that Groot is so bewildered that he can't just catch him), it would require 100% of his attention to do so, leaving him wide open to whatever Quill, Gamora, Drax, and Rocket want to do.

Debate / Flip-flopping: Does it deserve its bad rap?
« on: June 29, 2017, 04:19:39 PM »
So sometimes it seems like one of the worst accusations you can levy at a politician is flip-flopping. "He used to believe THIS, but now he believes THAT! Can you believe this guy?"

But is flip-flopping always a bad thing?

I mean, there are obviously degrees. If there is video of a politician saying (A) 12 months ago, then (B) 6 months ago, then (A) 3 months ago, and then (B) again last night... that's bad. That's pandering to your audience and saying whatever people want to hear. I think we can all agree that guy's a schmuck.

But if someone said (A) 5 years ago, but last year started saying (B), why is that NECESSARILY bad? Couldn't a guy have developed a more informed opinion over time and with research? Could new details or situations come to light that changed his stance? Why is that "flip-flopping"?

Would we really rather have someone whose rigid opinion is unchangeable? Someone who is so in love with confirmation bias, that he would never alter his course? Isn't that far, far worse?

What sayeth the learned masses of HC?

ICT / So who is the STRONGEST DC character that Odin beats 6+/10?

Obviously with respect to the Odin/Darkseid thread.

I'm trying to find images, but my work computer is being extremely temperamental.

Anyway, what I'm thinking of is the scene in Batman: Dark Victory where Alfred finds Dick Grayson in the Waynes' master bedroom and it is overlayed with a time he found a young Bruce there. Both children just became orphaned, and Alfred finds the words to say what Dick needs to hear when he wasn't able to for Bruce.

Ah, here it is:

ICT / Re: Movie Ego vs Movie Dormammu

Dormammu, I think. Though it's not like we saw a lot of what he could do. He seemed more imposing than Ego, and ego has a more easily accessed weakness than Dormammu's.
