General Chat / Re: Bill Maher is a dick and a half

I can't stand him. He acts like some wise political pundit but he's really a failed unfunny ex-stand up comic who couldn't get an acting career going either. One of his last acting appearances was a bit part on Married With Children.

He still does stand up.  I've seen him twice.  It's pretty good.

That's because now he can afford to have somebody else to write his act for him.

What makes you think his show writers also write his standup act?  He was doing standup long before he had a show.

Yes he did have an act before, but it was a pretty generic one, and not very funny.
The one he does now is funny if you like his mostly political monologues at the top of his show and it sounds just like it came out of that writers room.  I will grant that I have no proof, but I do believe that the new material came from there.

I believe you're right.  I still stand on the third element making Cap's shield a special case though.

Incorrect

Not looking for a fight, but just curious.  What part are you referring to?

The MCU version of the shield is pure vibranium, (a fictional metal granted) extremely strong but still at some point it will exceed it's limits and could be shattered.
The comics version however is a one time only composite of vibranium & adamantium (OK, two pretend metals) as well as a still untold extra something that took place when the exhausted scientist fell asleep during the bonding process. This unknown something was always Marvel's answer why Cap's shield was impervious to anything that happened and why everything wasn't made of the stuff.
Magic, Alien intervention, Time Traveler, or my favorite... The Spirit of America/Freedom.  The Shield of Captain America has never and will never be broken, and I couldn't care less what some schmuck who didn't know any better put in a recent book.
You defend your religion and I'll defend mine.

General Comic Discussion / Re: Weirdest retcons?
« on: November 05, 2018, 09:20:39 PM »
I always thought that the writers of the Inhumans series were trying to do "Game of Thrones with powers.  They didn't do that well, but that may have been what they were going for.
As for retcons I've never liked the bring 'em back from the dead stories.  The X-men are especially big on this from the original one from the Neal Adams era of Prof. X having put an impostor in his own place (who gets killed)without telling the team, so he can prepare to fight some alien race who get whupped in one issue.  All the way to the umpty hundred times Jean Grey gets to come back, each time more silly than the last.

ICT / Re: Battle of the Week: Sarah Connor vs Michael Meyers

Myers is basically a dark magic version of a Terminator, so I'll put my money on Sarah.  Maybe he wakes up in the morgue and comes back for a sequel, but she puts him down in the finale.

I think the movie version would be better in a fight, but I know I'd pay big money to watch them.

I don't think there's ever been a Bullseye/Hawkeye fight in the comics.  That's unfortunate really, because I always thought they both had the same subtle mutation that gave them their uncanny aim. Maybe they have an ancestor in common. There are any number of fictional characters and historical figures who supposedly had incredible aim
A story too be told someday in a retcon or maybe someone's fanfic.

Food and Fitness / Re: What is the best Greek dish?
« on: October 18, 2018, 10:41:34 PM »
Gyros, stuffed grape leaves or my favorite, baklava drenched in honey accompanied by a strong cup of coffee w/ cream for dunking.

Or Marina Sirtis, also drenched in honey and ready for dunking, but I think that's a different thread.

I wouldn't mind them bring back Sons of Anarchy to redo the last season lol

I’ve heard that series ended badly a few times here. I never watched it.

I've been watching "Mayans" on FX. It's the spinoff from SoA and has one or two characters in common.  It's pretty good, my personal favorite is Edward James Olmos as the father of the lead character.  I'm waiting for him to call someone a Cylon and blow them to hell...but that's just me.
