Post by: Clownprince23 on May 13, 2015, 12:51:13 AM
What is your favorite sandwich?

Mine is tomato and mayo with plenty of salt and pepper on white bread.

Yeah, pulled pork is hard to beat - heavy on the sauce, no slaw.

Runner up: bananas and peanut butter.

I've never tried bananas and peanut butter and I never will. For me, its bananas and mayo.

GTFO, bro.

For me, my general go-to sandwich is the Italian at Firehouse Subs. An array of sliced Italian meats, lettuce, onions, mustard, provolone, and that Italian dressing served hot. BOOM.

I don't consider that a real sandwich. That's more like an actual meal. When I thin of sandwich, I think of something you go make in the kitchen real quick for a snack.
Title: Re: Favorite Sandwich
Post by: NeoGreenLantern on May 13, 2015, 06:09:37 PM
nah thats a sandwich. Sandwich doesn't have to be easy. First a pulled pork sandwich is going to take longer to make than an Italian sub. That takes like 5 minutes tops. Second your sandwich is a discussing mess that a heroin addict would come up with.

Though I will say, I used to love Firehouse Subs until I had Jersey Mike's.  If you have a Jersey Mike near you, you should take in his footlong Italian.  Hard.

King of Sandwich places for me has to be the deluxe original Schlotzsky's on their sourdough. It's where I go for my sandwich needs.

Oh I also forgot to mention the Maize and Blue Deli in Ann Arbor.  Huge, delicious sandwiches with a massive variety of choices.

For those who give a shit, there was a Man Vs Food episode where Adam Richman went there and ate one, and said it was better than the ones in Jew York.  I'm sure those faggots got all mad about it, because New Yorkers are a stupid lot.

I guess in general, my favorite sandwich is probably a French dip with some mushrooms, swiss, and tomato if I'm in the mood for it. There's a brewery here in town that makes a pretty good one. A  good Reuben sandwich is pretty hard to beat, but it can't have like 3 inches of sauerkraut on it. The sauerkraut is needed, but most places go overboard.

The tomato mayo sandwich? Add a slice of sharp cheddar, and you've got something there.

They do.  It's not only less expensive than Firehouse Subs, but you get more sub and it tastes better.

As far as chains go, Schlotzskys was always a favorite. I loved their pastrami on rye. Unfortunately, they aren't here anymore. This town is too in love with their bland-ass EeGee's. We don't have any really amazing sandwich shops here. Luke's has a good pastrami.
Title: Re: Favorite Sandwich
Post by: Bandido on May 17, 2015, 11:55:58 PM
Yeah, smaller chains do tend to get swept away when new favorites move into towns.

If we're talking sandwiches in general, Peanut Butter & Honey is tops for me. I also find in credibly hard to beat a grilled cheese. It's almost impossible to screw up.

Nothing beat their Sourdough, sturdy enough on the outside to hold the sandwich together, yet super soft on the inside absorbing all the juices.

They really are. Their roasted chickens, danish, and triple berry pie are (http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k625/NorthLeaf10/ezgif.com-gif-maker.gif) (http://s1119.photobucket.com/user/NorthLeaf10/media/ezgif.com-gif-maker.gif.html) too.

My favorite sandwich is turkey breast with jarlsberg or monterey jack. Mayo, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. I like the henstenberg barrel pickles, sliced long ways. On toasted rye or sourdough.

For a change of pace, turkey rachels are great. I love most cole slaws in general.

Have a local pizza place that makes a fucking GREAT philly cheese. Guys are from NY and they import most of their ingredients.

I do have Jersey Mikes as well. You definitely get more for your money. Fresh sliced meat is good times. Fuck Subway. But Firehouse has kids-eat-free days, which is usually when the fam and I hit it up. It offsets the higher price, and me am love ITALIAN COMBO ON WHEAT NOM NOM NOM!

philly: Slow roasted heirloom pork shoulder, au jus, roasted long hots or broccoli rabe and sharp provolone on an Italian roll

Slow roasted beef brisket, roast tomatoes, horseradish, pepporoncino sharp provolone and a fried egg on an Italian role

Country chicken club; rotisserie chicken, tomato, avocado, bacon and Rosemary aioli on toasted ciabatta.

Croque madame

I'm glad to see Philly getting it's due as a great sandwich city (even if I chose an nyc option)

as far as philly goes you have to try the Roast Pork Italian from Tony Luke Jr's (the stand NOT THE SPORTS BAR, if you are in a bar you are at the wrong tony lukes) which is pretty much exactly what gree describes first.

Turkey, sharp cheddar, lettuce, tomato, bacon, garlic aoili, mustard, mayo and onions.

On a Dutch crunch roll.

With 4 packs of actual honey that you place on your next bite.

They honey this real y'all. It works with almost any sandwich. You will be shocked at how good it is. Just don't apply it the same way you do with regular condiments. It's a bite by bite application.

Two years after I first posted in here, I have to say I've shifted more toward the philly roast pork italian with sharp provolone and broccoli raab (or spinach). Long hots or even sundried tomatoes optional.
