Title: Marvel Studios rewatch
Post by: NeoGreenLantern on March 08, 2018, 02:28:01 PM
Anyone else rewatching the movies leading into Infinity War? My wife and I are on Ironman 2. A lot of people hate this one but I enjoy it. You got Black Widow's first appearance, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Justin Hammer who I really hope makes another appearance.

I might, not sure right now. I generally do a re-watch prior to these "events" but that's a lot of films now lol

Yeah we were trying to do one a week leading into it but we work different shifts and things have bee hectic. We haven't even finished Punisher yet.

I think the biggest flaw of IM2 is the deus ex machina of his dad having a hidden message for the exact thing he needs at the exact time he needs it. It's like the secret subway lair of Pete's father in the Amazing Spider-Man movies just not as blatant.

I'll need to convince my gf to watch Thor 3 and Guardians 2.

That should be fun.

I can actually rewatch IM 2 more than the first one. The climax fights at the end are worth it.

Justin Hammer is the GOAT

What? GOTG 2 and Ragnarok are the best of their series.

My wife and I have been doing the whole "one movie a week until Infinity War" thing.  And yeah, I always liked Iron Man 2 and the first Thor movie.  Although rewatching First Avenger made me appreciate it a lot more.  Seeing how the movies progress one at a time in a short span really puts things into perspective.

I've always liked IM2 never got all the hate it gets.  Now Dark World that a travesty.

I like Dark World too. Honestly there isn't a single one of the movies i didn't enjoy. Dark World is probably the weakest.

Now if we include all of the MCU than Inhumans is probably the only thing I found unenjoyable.

I don’t like Iron Man 3.  Dark World was boring when I rewatched it.  Adter seeing all the other cosmic Marvel movies, it seems pretty dull.

Most of Loki's character devlopment occurs in The Dark World though.

True.  The best parts of any of the Thor movies involved Thor and Loki.  I loved the Loki stuff but the story was strangely dull for a movie about space elves.

Agrred. Shout out to the ending bout between Malekith and Thor being appropriately epic though

Yeah travesty is a bit far.  Boring is more appropriate.

I honestly think The Incredible Hulk is ironically the weakest.

Dark World may be the best Thor. Stakes are high and Thor isn't a chump. He brings it to Malekith hard core at the end. And the way his hammer was chasing him through dimensions, we've never seen anything like that before.

Exactly - it has no emotional arc for Tony. Its the Marvel movie that was most damaged by the need to make sure that people went to see the next film. Thats something Marvel doesnt seem to do anymore but at the time IM/Stark was their only surefire thing and they yielded to the temptation to make sure you knew The Avengers were coming.

It was like they were going for more of a "Demon In a Bottle" thing but chickened out and instead they just made Tony more unlikable for half the film. And, as you point out, the basic dilemma is resolved not by Tony's effort/brains/sacrifice but because Fury/Stark Senior hand over the solution. Even then they manage to kill the momentum of the film by stopping everything for 15 minutes while Tony drives to see Pepper in a nice bit of Audi product placement for a very forgettable conversation before grabbing the Stark Expo diorama.

Iron Man 2 drags a bit in the middle, but it’s good overall.
