Title: Samurai Jack: Spoilers
Post by: Bandido on March 12, 2017, 03:55:33 AM
The animation is a thing of wonder! Those shots of a silhouette of Jack in the rain, great stuff! Nice seeing the 3D animation blend fluidly with the traditional 2D.

Aku has a cult that births disciples to honor and serve him.
Jack has guns and a sick motorcycle. He has not aged as a side effect of time displacement.
He's haunted by vision of his family berating him for abandoning them.

Yeah.

Jack's losing it as he's seeing visions of his father and all the innocent people he hasn't been able to save because he hasn't stopped Aku.

Jack lost his sword and Aku doesn't know. And Jack, taking out the Sammy Davis Jr. Bot's phone, wants to keep it that way because...well, Aku can probably decide to just find Jack and kill him now.

The daughters of Aku are trained sisters (even see their births) since birth to kill Jack believing he's a force of evil.

Any theories on who the oni masked rider in Jack's visions may be?

Also, wonder how the daughters plan to res Aku...

Aku can spy on Jack anytime he wants, so he should be able to figure it out on his own.  Though right now it's unclear where Aku even is, since the cult keeps talking about him like he's been away for while.

I'm also wondering since there's been a 50-year time-skip if we're going to see an older crotchety Scotsman at all.

I think I saw the Scotsman in a trailer. He was old and in a wheelchair, I think?

And maybe Aku is just busy now. I mean, wasn't he expanding his empire out of earth at one point?

I remembering that wasn't even the only planet he had. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that.

When in doubt...google Samurai Jack wiki.

Here's what I found in the Aku section:

Hungry for more power, Aku established the Earth as a space-faring world, opening his ports to surrounding worlds in order to plunder and conquer worlds beyond as well. The influx of aliens, ranging from enslaved species to rough immigrants, have made the Earth a hodge-podge of a dystopian society primarily run by tyrants and gangs. The few bastions of peace and hope typically remain out of Aku's wide field of vision.

Okay, so yeah. He has expanded his reach off-world.

Maybe the masked rider is just the representation of Aku's tyranny over the past, present, and future. Or just some mook like the slavers from the very first episode.

And I can't wait to see what the Daughters of Aku can do.

You dont have Cartoon Network? That blows.

I have cartoon Network on ondemand and I haven't seen it post yet.

My brother said it was pretty good.  I'd let them know about it once I saw the post.

Ah, but the voice of Mako is legendary.  He is greatly missed.

Holy Balls this episode was good!

SPOILERS

Jack killing one of the daughters of Aku was brutal, thought it was a straight up decapitation at first. The show foreshadowed it with Jack having a argument with himself earlier about the hunters always being robots - Speaking of, Jack implied that's why he always finds a way, Robots suck, the Daughters of Aku waited for Jack to expose himself, they played him out, they also hurt him, each one able to give him a fight and together overwhelm him. Even killing the daughter with the sword at the end, he got stabbed and had to use the sonic dagger he looted from the Robot in the last episode in order to destroy the temple they were fighting in and get away by falling into a river, bleeding. He goes full Predator mode next ep judging from the previews, threatening the daughters to turn back, or, "...face your destiny."

Highlights: Jack's refusal to give up on himself, even when his own voice is telling him to just go die! Jack running through the rain. The fighting in the dark, where weapons clanging illuminated the fight! The tension built as Jack hides in the tomb, with the glow-bug buzzing as the daughters search for him.

I'm interested to see how killing living beings effects Jack's will to fight Aku. Especially considering his crisis of hope with his own inner voice earlier.

This was an incredible episode. Please watch this.

Also, we found out about Aku.

He's become a recluse. He destroyed all the time portals and decided to wait Jack out, just out live him. But the time displacement has left Jack immortal, and Aku has become depressed that he probably will never be free of Jack. But he is handling it much more positively than Jack as he is giving him self (literally) therapy lessons.

ALL of the portals? Haven't watched the new stuff yet, but in the old series, there was that one time portal guarded by a guy that Jack couldn't defeat. The guy sent Jack off but saw a future where Jack would be better trained and ready for the portal.

Did Aku get even THAT portal, or is there just a blanket statement that they're all gone?

They don't explain the "Jack and the Portal Guardian", portal. Of course they didn't look this far ahead. Because Jack hasn't aged as that vision foresaw.

Hmmm, fair enough. So the portal guardian maybe saw a false/alternate future. Or maybe that vision will come true... somehow.

Damn.

Very well done.

How about that sound work? I mean I've never been moved to say that from a show, but it added another layer of beauty to the whole thing.

I'm into this more ongoing format. The theme of Aku/the Future/Jack wanting to get home was there in all previous episodes but each more or less seemed to stand on it's own or reference something that had happened and build a single episode to follow up on it. This though, we have ongoing threads, Jack's nightmares, the 7 daughters and the one that stands out from the other, the wolf. That right there is what looks to be at least another two main characters of interest, at least one of which I suspect will be joining up with Jack. I would have said that about the other sister as well but after Jack killed one of them, I don't see her coming around to his side, at least not anytime soon. Still, Jack riding a dire wolf into battle is something I'm looking forward to.

Jack and the Wolf being in on analogous journeys through the universe is very, Claremont Wolverine esque to me. Love it. I also like how toothless Aku is now, he appetite is saitied, and he's just as tired of fighting as Jack.

So...

All the daughters of Aku maybe dead. At least 6 of 7 are, not sure about the chain-flail wielding one.

After the end of the previous episode, they track him through blood patches in the wilderness. He hide in a cave where has another argument with his conscious, revealing he's never killed a human before. And his passing out, a scene earlier was due to the trauma of killing a human, not pulling the knife out of his stomach. This leads to a dream Jack has, remembering a a time as a kid where he saw his dad slaughter some bandits who attacked their family carriage. That's where he got the line, "... leave now, or face your destiny." He stitches himself back together with a thorn bark (Like a hoss). While Jackwas in the cave, he and the Wolf find each other and bond. The Wolf keeps Jack warm during the winter. The daughter of Aku have never seen other life forms before, they run across a doe and are perplexed as to what it is, when they see the buck they associate the horns with Aku and are disturbed when the buck doesn't kill the doe and instead bonds with it.

Shortly thereafter Jack drops his ultimatum and when they chose to fight, he kills two of them instantly. They fight it out unto an overhanging log where Jack re-centers himself and appears to kill the final three daughters hth.

Highlights: The art and coloring when Jack is shown in the cave, outlined in blood veins and the Wolf shows up the same. They have a moment of understanding, both wounded and tired. - The violence, from Jack killing the daughters to his dad cutting up the bandits splattering blood on little kid Jack. The final Daughter cursing Jack as she's hanging on to her chain, wrapped around Jack's hand as he looks both tired and regretful as he unwraps the chain from his arm without saying a word. Wow.

Finally caught up.

This show continues to be awesome! From Jack's inner torment to Aku blaming the audience for not being able to rid himself of the Samurai. This crew knows the characters, their world, the genre and their fans. Everything feels fully thought out.

My favorite thing is Jack getting a "Robin." Especially how he treats her. Speaking of, am I the only one who knew the Daughters of Aku weren't anywhere near good enough to beat Jack?

I hope he gets a good showing. I've wanted to see him redeem himself after the end of the Siren episode where...I don't know they ran short, they had him job to Jack unmercifully. Easily the worst episode of Samurai Jack just for that. :)

It'd be cool if he died. Aku killing him reignites Aku's thirst for destruction and Jack's passion for justice.

It'd have to happen within the next 4 eps (All that remain) and I don't see Jack going for her. Perhaps in a Sarah Connor to Reese type of way

Spoilers:

Last episode we learn Jack didn't lose the sword, he lost himself after Aku tricked him into killing some child, ram-like creatures Aku had turned into monster. Jack goes on a spirit quest to regain the sword while Ashii protects him and by killing hundreds of soldiers trying to take advantage of Jack's weakened state. - This is some of the best animated choreography Tartokovsky has done! Ashii's battle culminates in her having to kill her mother as the final boss in order to save Jack. In the vision quest, Jack learns that his anger and hate, the voice always antagonizing him, is the part of himself standing between him and the Sword. Once Jack reconciles this, He encounters some of the deities seen throughout the show and they restore him as he awakes, shaved and with THE SWORD!

Ashii asks, "What's next?"

Jack replies, "Aku."

Balls out awesome!
Title: Re: Samurai Jack: Spoilers
Post by: Propeus The Fallen on May 01, 2017, 10:07:18 AM
Well, I can see why Jack got so angry. I mean, Aku, apparently has been destroying the time portals just before Jack gets their and when he finally gets in one (super happy)--he gets yanked out!

Ashi was a one-woman army. Even took out her mom. Bonus points for it being a combo of how the other daughters of aku died (impalement and falling off a great height)

And maybe Jack will go an episode without his clothes being shredded to basically nothing.

So I guess Scaramouche tells Aku Jack lost his sword and that leads to Aku making his last mistake.

I don't think it was that rushed. It spawned a good chunk of episodes.

Anyway, I'm guessing The Scotsman and his daughters and everyone Ashi met looking for Jack will be there to back him up. I don't know about any time travel unless that time portal suddenly heals itself.
