So there's 9 hours until the first workout for the open is being announced, anyone else registered and trying to qualify/just doing it for fun with your box mates? Apparently you can create your own leader board to follow and shit, which is pretty sweet.

Can't find this broad on the site. Never mind, in classic Crossfit website fashion, the site is fucking up as I'm sure allot of people are trying to access it.

Dan Bailey, aka 6th place contender at the 2012 Crossfit games, couldnt get started on the 210 pounds snatch (Him and scott Panchik went head to head about 3 hours ago). Scott Panchik (who placed 4th in 2012) got 4 snatches at 210lbs. (Dan scoring 190 to Scotts 194 reps) My buddy, who's considered likely the most well rounded and best in my gym did the WOD when they posted it and got 167 reps (not even making it to the 10 burpees. If you can get ANY at 210, you're an animal. You're better than I am, and probably should be competing in the open. Though likely you're just under estimating how hard the wod actually is.

What's your max snatch? To give you an idea here, last years opening WOD, 12.1, was an 7min AMRAP burpees. Scott Panchik lead the board with 161 burpees which is utter fucking ridiculous. Bailey got 146 burpees from what I remember.
Bailey's max snatch (probably higher now, assuming these are 2012 numbers on the site and he doesn't update regularly) is 265lb. Seems more likely that he could put up closer to 290lbs considering he's been training with Froning, who puts up a 300lbs snatch (as of a week ago).
Granted he could have lost some conditioning as well, but overall, with a snatch at 265 - 290lbs and the engine to do that many burpees... and them him not even getting 1 rep at 210... yea, this wod is probably hard as BALLS.
I'm hoping to finish the 20 burpees and just make it to the 165 snatch, personally.

How would you even consider getting a few reps of the 210 then? The final snatch is higher than your 1 rep max (not even factoring in fatigue here).
After that work load, picking up 80% of your max would feel like hell, let alone 105% of your max.

Anyhow I think I'm going to give that WOD a go. So far I'm finding a lot of good workouts on here. K complex was awesome, Jessie's workouts are awesome and this one looks hard. I love the WOD's that don't require a whole lot of space. If I can find a corner of the gym and really push it without getting in anyone's way

Mike Burgener showing the burpee progression. This is good, except that you want to remember when you're chaining the movements together, you're not really doing push ups, but more or less using them as a spring to propel yourself back into the squat position.

I said I thought I could get it started. 1 is a start. PS I also never said I could get through that WOD. I just said I could get started on the 210. I'm not sure I could get past 1 or 2 of the 165 in this WOD.

Well there is no getting through the wod, its an amrap, only the time stops you really. But ya, your first post definitely made it seem like you'd be able to bust off a few 210's, or at least make it to the bench mark. I was just highlighting how Bailey didnt even make it that far, and that it's harder than it looks. To be honest, before I watched the live feed, I assumed I'd make it to 210 as well... until I saw how hard it was for bailey and and Panchik to get through it. The 17 minutes kind of throws you off, makes it seem timeless, but really.... burpees.

Yeah, I could see the confusion. Sorry about that.
By getting through the WOD, I meant completing it even once. Snatching my body weight (165) 30 times is just not happening after those other lifts and the burpees. My stamina and strength just aren't there for this level of workout, right now.

I'm sure you've had to clean up a lot of gyms, Slayven. You'd probably like Crossfit gyms more since the members usually clean up after themselves. You'd only get called in to clean up the vomit and stuff.

I think crossfit has actually become fitness as a sport - if you standardized some of the workouts as official events I don't see why it couldn't be
Powerlifitn competitions 100 years back had over 8 events and most were lifts you never see anymore like the bent press and back lift etc.......
Plus - whoever is in charge of crossfit's marketing department should get statue somewhere - those are some scary loyal members. I think Ramz would car bomb someone's house if they talked badly about cross fit

I talk badly about Crossfit. I don't really respect a lot of the shit they do. I've seen comps where it literally puts people in danger, and they try to do it because hey, they're in a comp.
Like anything with big money and growing fan base its already become a roids game, you aren't gearing hard for strength on the off season before the games? Forget about it.
Also they amount of joint pain I have now is fucking insane. My shoulders are fucked, big time, lucky that's the only major problem, but in 3 years from now? I don't want to be paying for physio forever. I know guys with knee problems, wrist problems, shoulder issues, back problems, etc. Its a mess.
Just so much wear and tear on the body.

I am so very confused
Are you planning on switching to something else at some point?
I think the thing with some of the WODS is that the workouts aren't designed necessarily with health or a specific sport in mind. Hell, alot of sports aren't very body friendly - look t a basketball players knee's or anyone who has done time in the NFL
The more it becomes a sport, the more it becomes - let's see if you can do 100 snatches, run 4 miles, and clean a kettlebell 50 times. That's a sport, not a workout for health.

Yea, I get that, and I understand that bigger is better, money wise. Doesn't mean I'm down with it. Soon the standard KB will be 2 pood, Froning already is training with an 83lb KB just "because you never know what they'll throw at you", guys will be doing isabel with 80kg rather than 60kg, or fran with 60 rather than 45. etc etc. Bodies will be broken, big time.
Just give me the fucking SSS already
