It has already beat TDK's WW total after only 12 days. It shattered the the box office opening record.

None of the individual Avenger films came close to the ensemble piece. TDRR won't come close. it will be a better movie in tersm of just being a serious and profound film. Avengers is the best popcorn flick of all time.

The better comparison is Harry Potter and even that is tough. In Harry Potter we all saw the characters grow up over the course of a decade and everyone was emotionally invested in seeing it play out. Overall though, its demographic is more limited. I cant imagine a couple of 60 year old's going in to watch it jsut because it sounds good. Avengers has every demographic covered - the 18-34 and then everyone who grew up with comics watching it come to life

The similarity with Harry Potter is watching the plot reach its apex over years of build uo except Avengers did it with several movie franchises and Potter could only do it with one. The build up was comparable but Avengers is a marketing juggernaut

In the end Avengers will be the fun film - Batman will be the one that you will watch a few times and really thnk about and be moved by.

If Avengers had a Hugh Jackman cameo, it would make 1 trillion dollars.

Judging by the opening box office gross, it could very well overtake TDK in sales.

It was a Die Hard film starring Batman... which meant it was awesome, but yes, it's not some deeply layered poetic epic like some Batfans on the internet think it is. Nolan is definitely a great director, but TDK isn't as "deep" as some of his other stuff. I definitely like the serious, grounded, dark tone... fits Batman perfectly. Because Batman should be serious, grounded, and dark.

Likewise, Whedon nailed the tone of Avengers: big, bold, lively action.

Forget TDK, with its constantly revising OW figure TA could take a stab at Titanic's original domestic figure even with a crap multiplier. Hell, with TDK's multipler it could exceed the re-release figure.

Hahaha Methinks the pom-pom using bitch doth protest too much.

He was reffering to TDKR.

But TDK was moving not in a 'i'm gonna cry' way, more of a makes you think about the corrupting nature of power in society way--you know, what the movie and the series is actually about. That's if you can remotely comprehend what Nolan is trying to say in his films in general.

Well, that's just a blatant lie.

So you didn't understand it either.

SMH.

Guess some people can actually perceive nuance where some people just don't bother past the punches and explosions.

For those of us capable of comprehending what the movie is about, though, it's about as multilayered and poetic a story as a superhero movie has ever been. it's easily right in line with Inception or the Prestige. Looking at Nolans work as a whole the pattern is pretty clear.

TDK was a thriller where the main guy dressed funny.

Who would have thought that people who actually read comics would so rigorously deny that superheroes can be used to convey complex ideas?

If you really think that TDK was that multilayered and poetic as Inception and the Prestige and that it was too deep for some people on here to understand, then maybe your mental facilities are just that much more limited.

All three are direct reflections of one another and ultimately components of the same overarching thematic message.

But yeah, you definitely aren't bright enough to remotely comprehend what the story is about though.

Of course we can comprehend what he's saying... because his characters say it in the film. Repeatedly. It's not "deep". It present the audience with some interesting dialogue from the Joker about chaos and from Dent about chance... but it's pretty much "what you see is what you get". There's no deeper meaning because Nolan throws all of the meaning right at you.

The stuff with the ferries at the end (which is retarded because how did two ferries get loaded with hundreds of barrels of explosives without anyone seeing) is something out of a college entry-level philosophy class. Is it better to murder one boat when you know both will die if you don't choose? OMG WUT IF WON bOTE HAZ CONVICTS!?

Yeah.. maybe because they see something you don't.
