What do the little numbers next to the names mean? I figure they are a score of some sort, but what in the blue blazes was the criteria.

That reminds me, The Blue Blazer should be #1 at everything.

Votes from the past 10 years of Observer Awards issues.

In looking at the best of the decade, we went back through the Observer awards in several categories with the basic ten points for first down to one point for tenth place in several major categories from 2000 to 2009 to come up with the bests in each category. This system isn’t meant to say that the person who finishes No. 6 is better than the person who finishes No. 8, or even that No. 1 is No. 1 necessarily because this system is like the ten-point must system of judging. It’s a process that most often yields the right answers, but at times yields the wrong answers. But it does offer up a lot of evidence regarding consistency at the top, whether it be top performances or top drawing.

Pointless lists that basically ignore things like Wrestling not being constant in popularity over the last decade. When Rock was at his peak, he was competing for space with Stone Cold Steve Austin and, to a lesser extent, a Prime HHH and even Foley. Who exactly comparable from the new breed is pushing Cena longterm in an era that itself is significantly declined, and therefore worth fewer main event points than those from the attitude era? Randy fucking Orton ??

Rock and Austin exceed Cena in virtually every meaningful quality or purpose.

In other words, this list is just an accumulation of the points they've earned in various categories over the last 10 years(00-09).  Obviously, the more years you've been active during the decade the better your chances of having a high score.  For example regarding Cena being ranked higher than the Rock, Cena has been in the WWE since 2002 and The Rock retired in 2004.  Cena has a numbers(years) advantage in this type of judging.

It comes across more as a longterm mediocrity list (once you hit a certain level) than anything else.

Cena has way more charisma points than even longtermers like Jericho and Angle (hurt by his move to TNA I'm guessing.) Come to think of it, I wonder if Big Show got any support in either area over time. He honestly should have.

Certainly

Though Jericho was around at the start of the decade, before Cena debuted.
