Sorry for the ad banners everybody.
Trying to get this place stabilized as far as the hardware goes. The database is kicking my ass, meaning I'll likely need to upgrade the server again.
Since it's already losing money (consistently), and the only ads that have been profitable thus far have been riddled with questionability, I have no choice but to up the ad count on the hopes that it equates to more revenue.
Additionally, at some point in the future (hopefully soon), there will be a server move in the hopes of making the database happier, since the search is breaking the crap out of it, as it apparently doesn't like searching a 2Gb database with only 512Mbs of RAM.
Again, sorry for the intrusion, but I'm trying to make it as painless as possible, and you should at least be able to take solace in the fact that I'm not getting rich off of these ads or anything.

Yeah, a poll would be good. Would it be able to appear globally - or at least in ICT, General Chat and the Jungle Room - instead of just the forum rules and announcements? People don't always take a gander at this section.

As long as we don't end up with any of those adds that open a page automatically and force you to redirect back to the site, they aren't that big a deal. The gray bar in the middle is still making me think the page loaded incorrectly, but I'll get used to it.

If you feel the need to add membership fees, it's your right to do so...this is one of the few things I wouldn't mind paying a monthly fee for.
I just don't feel the need to do it just to get rid of the ads. As long as I'm not inundated by a dozen or so pop-ups, then I don't really mind.

Just so we're clear, as far as I've thought it through thus far, the fees wouldn't be "membership" fees. Membership is free, and unless something drastic changes, it'll always be free.
This would just be a cost to opt out of the ads if they really bothered you. I wouldn't expect for a lot of people to pay it, because probably most people don't mind the ads that much.

Take it up a notch from that. For a fee, you can have the perma banned poster of your choice unbanned with the understanding that they can't be banned again for a certain period of time. $10 gets you a day. $25 a week. $50 two weeks.
THAT might actually get some pop to it.
